A Florida restaurant has become the center of debate after a Black woman alleged that the staff was making racially charged assumptions about her family while they dined in the establishment with other guests.
The woman claimed that the incident happened after waiters and managers suspected her and her family of bailing on the bill, leaving her to wonder whether the ordeal was necessary.
According to the customer, who shared the incident on X via got_cake, the altercation occurred at Casavana Cuban Restaurant while she was out to dinner with her husband, daughter, and a few more guests.
The woman stated that she had to leave the building twice while they were having lunch because her husband was not feeling well and wanted some fresh air.
She further revealed that the staff assumed that she and her husband did not speak Spanish due to their skin color and, as a result, rushed to call an English-speaking waitress when seating the families and seated their lighter-skinned counterparts with a person who only spoke the language.
In the caption, the user directed her comments at Hispanics – “the racist ones” – claiming that not all people with white skin and straight hair are Spanish-speaking. She alleged that the situation escalated when her husband went outside for the second time and, as a result, the manager told the waitress in Spanish to lock the doors, assuming that the family was attempting to flee the premises without paying for their meal.
When she confronted the manager directly, she says she was accused of overreacting before being told to just pay the bill. She later asked, “How do you lock people inside a building?” questioning whether the move was even legal.
She says she paid the $38 check herself and left, adding that she intends to look further into the incident.
Meanwhile, the Florida restaurant in question has not publicly addressed the allegations.

The video has sparked a heated conversation online, with some commenters sympathizing with the woman’s account while others focused on the legal and social dynamics at play. One commenter wrote, “They do stuff like this, then complain that Black people don’t tip. The treatment is disgraceful.”
Another pointed out, “It’s funny they think only light skinned people are from Spanish speaking bloodlines.” A third argued, “She’s NOT lying at all. The racism from white Cubans in Miami is out of control. And the best part is, these same people are the directors, hiring managers, HR, and managers in all positions.”
Someone else offered a different angle, writing, “Im sorry for what you had to go through with ignorant brown brothers/sisters! We need human KINDNESS.” Others zeroed in on the legality of the situation, with one commenter claiming, “Very much illegal and a violation of the 4th Ammendment. False imprisonment is a felony and a 4th ammendment violation.”
