A TikTok video of a Delaware woman arguing with her mother is making its rounds on social media. She’s been speaking up about her conservative parents on TikTok, with one of the latest being her trying to get straight answers on why her mom voted for President Trump.
Uploaded by TikTok user Larrythecucumberhater, Elaina recorded herself in the midst of a political argument with her mother. She argues her mother “made a wrong decision” by voting for President Trump. She demands an “apology” to her and to the country for voting to take their rights away. “Why’d you vote for him?” Elaina asks.
Elaina keeps at it, demanding why her mother voted for him and all her mom can say in response is, “I don’t know.” To this, she says, “You don’t know because you are so racist and hateful inside.” She argues that Trump becoming president gave her mother an “opportunity” for her racism to come out.
The argument gets more and more heated, with Elaina telling her mother, “You preach about empathy and having love for others and kindness for others and don’t carry it out,” and calls her a “hypocrite.”
By this point, she’s wiping tears out of her eyes, asking, “Who are you?!” She can’t believe that her mom would continue to support him and the rest of the Republican party. To her, she says it feels like she’s losing her mother. “Where’s the mother who wanted to go on mission trips to Mexico and help the poor?”
The reaction to Elaina’s TikTok video
Although Elaina doesn’t have the original video on her TikTok, it has since been reuploaded to other TikTok channels, as well as X. Many were sympathetic to her, with one X user, HackingButLegal, retweeting the video with the caption, “This conversation is playing out in homes across the nation.”
Others shared their support, too. One user commented on Elain’s apparent “realization in real time” that she won’t “have a relationship with her mother as an adult.”
Another user took it further, arguing, “They will NEVER admit they were wrong. And they WOULD vote for him again if he was on the ballot.”
These kinds of arguments from Americans isn’t new; it’s not unheard of these days for people to admit they went no-contact with friends and families because they voted for Donald Trump. Elaina’s TikTok video is yet another chapter in that trend.
