It was just a gift

A Florida man brought flowers and food to firefighters as a gesture of gratitude for their efforts during 9/11, but they shut the doors in his face.

It was claimed online that the station where the incident took place was Orange County Fire Station 54. In the video, the man approached the station carrying a bouquet and some food. He was initially met by someone who appeared to be a chief fire officer at the station.

The man first introduced himself to the officer before explaining that he was there to commemorate the anniversary of 9/11. He said that he appreciated everything the firefighters do for the community and wanted to bring flowers to the station as a gesture of gratitude. The chief officer accepted the flowers and appeared to welcome the gift.

As the man continued talking, another chief officer appeared and seemed less welcoming than the first. He began asking the man whether he had a medical emergency or needed help. “I was just trying to show support,” the man said. The officer then responded, “We know what you’re doing. We just don’t– this is a place of business. This isn’t business-like, so we just like you to leave.”

The second officer then gestured for the first officer to return the flowers, which he did. The man asked if they wanted the food instead, but they refused that as well. “If you don’t need us, we’re gonna shut the big doors,” the second chief officer said. The man then backed away as the officers began closing the doors in front of him.

Rather than walking away, the man continued filming the station while holding the rejected flowers. He began thanking the firefighters for their service and added the text, “Rest in peace to all lives lost on 9/11,” over the video. He then whistled an emotional tune in honor of those who died. The video ended with him saying, “Thank you for all you guys do.”

Viewers Outraged After Seeing Florida Man’s Video

Over in the comment section, many viewers expressed outrage after seeing how the officers at the fire station treated the Florida man, with some believing that their response was disrespectful. “That was incredibly rude. That was a very nice gesture and sorry that happened to you,” one person wrote. Another person said, “No that’s mad disrespectful.”

More people expressed outrage over the officers’ response. One person wrote, “As a career FF, we would never treat someone like this, whether they’re recording the interaction or not. I have no idea why they would act like that.” Others commented on the different reactions from the two officers, with another person saying, “The first guy seemed like he actually appreciated it and he looked so sad when he gave the flowers back.”

The incident led many viewers to question whether firefighters and other station staff should be more welcoming toward members of the community. It also divided opinions over whether the chief officer was justified in turning the man away despite his attempt to show his appreciation.
