A pizza pickup in Michigan put one customer face-to-face with a scene most people only see in warning videos: a car rolling on its own through a parking lot, with nobody old enough to drive anywhere near the wheel.
He made a split-second call, and that decision is the reason this story doesn’t end in a crash. Michigan authorities are now allegedly sorting out how a toddler ended up alone behind the wheel of a moving vehicle, and the man who stepped in is still tallying the damage to his own car.
According to the video posted by the bystander, who goes by @rns.gloo on Instagram, he had just walked out of a Jet’s Pizza with an order when he spotted a white car rolling unattended across the lot. With seconds to react, he steered his own vehicle into its path and pinned the wheel and bumper against it, stopping the car before it reached traffic.
When he approached to check on it, he found a toddler, appearing to be somewhere between two and four years old, alone in the front seat and crying, with loud music still playing from the speakers.
No adult was visible anywhere in the clip. In his caption, the bystander wrote, “If I didn’t record it no one would believe it who leaves they kids unattended in a running vehicle?”
Commenters who claim to have seen additional footage say the toddler had somehow shifted the car into neutral after being left alone inside it. They further claim that authorities were called, and the child’s mother was reportedly arrested on a child neglect charge. The Nerd Stash could not independently verify these claims.

The video sparked debate online, with many praising the bystander’s quick thinking while others directed their anger at the parent who left the child alone.
One commenter wrote, “The video is filmed by the guy who used his own car as a physical stop. Toddler looks 2–4 years old. No adult visible anywhere in the clip. The bystander almost certainly damaged his own car doing this. The parent should be facing questions.” Another agreed, adding, “Guy should be commended and his car repairs taken care of. The parent needs to face child neglect charges.”
A third pointed to additional footage, writing, “This isn’t the full video. He was in a Jet’s picking up an order & came out to this. The child was left alone & was able to push the Neutral button. Authorities were called, mom was arrested.” Another was blunter, demanding, “Please tell me the police were called. Whoever left that child in the car should be arrested.”
One more user took a sarcastic jab, writing, “What, unattended? They parent left the iPad to watch the youngin, that‘s all you need, right?”
In 2024, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) said its caseworkers “investigate nearly 70,000 child abuse allegations per year,” a figure that has been repeated in 2025 legislative hearings and news reports about the state’s child protective services workload.
