‘The Bridezilla Thing Stands True’: Massachusetts Wedding Caterer Called Out for Not Replenishing Food at Reception

I’m sure she was happy for that wedding to be over

A Massachusetts caterer is saying “the Bridezilla thing stands true” following an awful wedding experience. What she expected to be a fun and exhilarating wedding day turned into something like a nightmare for her. This all happened when she had to deal with the bride’s overbearing mother-in-law.

Caite (@caitethegreat) says she dealt with the worst wedding of a century. In the past 11 years, Caite has done over 3,000 events with her catering business. She says this is the only wedding that “made me cry” when it was completed. In her most recent wedding, she made a 6-foot grazing charcuterie board for 120 guests. They signed a contract for a once-and-done charcuterie board for the wedding. She shows a video of her board, which looks gorgeous and delicious.

Caite says she charges a set fee for one charcuterie board. She and her crew don’t replenish the food on it after it’s all gone. The bride’s mother-in-law came late to the wedding and 85 people already ate the board. She asks Caite in front of the guests, “Are you going to be replenishing the stuff?” Caite tells her that isn’t part of the contract. Unfortunately, the mother-in-law was angry about this. She decided to walk around telling everyone at the wedding that it “should have been replenished.”

Then, Caite and her crew begin serving the actual meal. The mother-in-law gets her plate and then comes up for another plate for a family member. When Caite asks her if she likes the food, she replies with, “Absolutely not. I did not like anything.” The mother-in-law ended up telling everyone in the end that she was unhappy with the service, from Caite’s food to the servers. Caite had a feeling before the wedding that things were going to be “disastrous.” However, she didn’t know it would be that bad.

Caite’s video sparked reactions from commenters, many of whom were on Caite’s side and believed she was mistreated by the overbearing mother-in-law. One commenter stated, “I’ve never seen a charcuterie get replenished; once it’s gone, it’s gone!” Another added, “Thinking it will be replenished is crazy unless it’s in the contract.”

Others made suggestions toward Caite about how she can handle situations like these in future endeavors. One stated, “You need to put a clause in your contract that verbal abuse or disrespect of any kind will not be tolerated and all services will halt the minute it happens.” Another commenter suggested, “It probably wasn’t about you at all. She needed to complain about someone or something because she wasn’t happy her baby boy was getting married.”

The debate didn’t end with Caite’s experience, either, as commenters quickly began sharing their own wedding catering disasters and Bridezilla encounters. If nothing else, the stories show just how quickly food can go from a small part of the big day to one of the things guests remember most.
