Maryland Woman Faces Backlash After Saying People Shouldn’t Have Family Photos At Their Homes: ‘Are You Ok?’

That doesn’t even make sense

A woman in Maryland faced backlash online after arguing that people shouldn’t display family photos in their homes so guests wouldn’t have to see them.

The woman, named Sierra, shared a video on TikTok with the text, “I don’t want to see your family photos at your house.” She began the video by describing her opinion as her “most controversial home decor opinion.”

Sierra argued that guests should not have to see family photos displayed on the walls of someone’s home. However, she felt that placing family pictures in small frames on a table was different.

She continued defending her opinion that people shouldn’t display family photos on their walls, saying, “Your family photos are not wall appropriate decor for guest spaces. Walls are for art. They are for mementos.”

“Hang a floating shelf and put up a souvenir from your family trip. I do not want to see photos of your family trip. I don’t. I don’t think it is a good use of your wall space,” Sierra continued. She added that she would rather see something that “actually” reflects a person’s personality.

She also said she found it “weird” when people “blow up” family photos and hang them in their living rooms. “Because I think hanging large art of yourself is really strange,” she said at the end of the video. In another video, Sierra defended her opinion, explaining that she only displays family photos in her bedroom because it is not a guest space.

However, Sierra faced criticism online, as many viewers believed that people should be free to display whatever photos they want in their homes. They argued that homeowners shouldn’t have to change their decor to appeal to guests, as their living spaces should reflect their personalities and the things that matter to them. Others felt that family photos were a meaningful way to decorate a home and that there was nothing strange about displaying pictures of loved ones on the walls.

Viewers Criticize Maryland Woman Over Video

Many viewers criticized the Maryland woman online over her opinion about family photos, arguing that she shouldn’t criticize others for choosing to display them in their homes. “Are you ok?” one person asked. Another mocked her opinion, writing, “my parents didn’t love me either.”

More people criticized Sierra’s opinion, with one person questioning why homeowners should have to consider their guests’ preferences when decorating their private spaces. “‘I don’t want to see-’ ‘I’d rather see-’ why are we pretending the way someone else decorates their own private space is customer service of some kind?” they wrote. Another person struggled to believe Sierra genuinely held that opinion, commenting, “I’m deciding this is satire.”

The reactions reflected differing views on how people choose to decorate their homes and whether guests’ preferences should influence those decisions. Many felt that homeowners should be free to display photos, artwork, and personal mementos that hold meaning for them, without worrying about whether visitors approve of their choices.
