An Illinois worker captured a car slamming into a gas station while on the job. The footage left viewers with plenty of theories about the driver’s motive. Some suspected a robbery, while others questioned whether any potential cash would be worth the damage to the vehicle.
Uploaded to TikTok by @itsebonyv, the clip is filmed from inside an Illinois gas station, with the on-screen text marking the time as 4 a.m.
The video opens with a white car inside the store and a red metal frame bent near the entrance. Then the car slams into the building again, leaving glass and debris across the floor, a blue bin tipped over, and the ATM knocked down.
In the caption, the creator tags the post with #robbery, suggesting she believes the crash was part of a robbery.
TikTok Questions the Driver’s Motive
One crash could have been a mistake. Coming back for a second hit was harder for commenters to explain away. “At first, I thought they made a mistake … but I saw them hit it the second time. Yea, that’s a threat,” one wrote. Another said one hit could have been an accident or medical event. But twice had to be intentional, they argued, while hoping no one was hurt.
People also questioned what the driver could possibly gain from the damage. “Guarantee they was trying to get the ATM which is why the second hit happened,” another suggested. Still, people questioned how much money someone could get and whether it was worth wrecking a car. “All this for 100 bucks,” one wrote.
The wreckage also had people asking why the store didn’t have barriers out front. One urged, “All these convenience stores/gas stations need to install those cement pillars on the sidewalk so this doesn’t happen. Crazy!” Another argued that bollards could leave the driver with a damaged car instead of a damaged store.
The comments seemed to largely go along with the Illinois creator’s suggestion that this was a robbery. That led people to keep returning to how senseless the whole thing felt. Viewers wanted to know why anyone would proceed this way, and whether it was really worth it in the end. Many felt that ultimately it was.
