A Michigan creator filmed her mom turning a funeral speech into a callout over how relatives treated her grandfather. Many viewers cheered her on, calling it therapeutic to finally get those feelings out. Others questioned why she hadn’t stepped in during the years she claimed he was being kept from loved ones.
Posted to TikTok by @alexusj__, the video shows the Michigan creator’s mom giving a speech at what the on-screen text calls a funeral. She opens by noting that she knows it’s being live streamed and that “Uncle Randy is watching.” From there, she speaks directly to several relatives, addressing them by name.
The woman accuses relatives of everything from stealing her grandfather’s money to taking him away from family and friends. She claims hospital staff told them he needed rehabilitation, but they checked him out anyway. “Y’all going to hell on the fastest train,” she tells them before closing the speech with, “Rest in peace, granddad.”
Viewers Pull Up a Chair
Commenters were here for her getting everything off her chest, even at a funeral. “Sometimes you gotta rip the bandaid off, so you can heal properly,” a commenter said. “Normalize honesty in all places, especially if it’s your last opportunity,” one wrote. A funeral worker said family secrets coming out were nothing new on the job. Awkward as it gets, they were glad to see families work things out and have their say.
The Michigan mom got praised for her demeanor, too. One viewer felt she stayed respectful while saying what she needed to say. Another admired Black women’s ability to call out injustice with “such poise and the sharpest of tongues.”
People also wished they could have been there in person. A commenter said they would have paid to get in, while another offered to pay her mom to attend their funeral. Someone else was so invested in the drama that they wanted an invite to the next family gathering. “PLEASE INVITE ME TO THANKSGIVING,” they added.
However, the speech also left people questioning where the mom had been during those years. “Ok I get what you’re saying but where were you all that time,” a commenter asked. Another wondered why she hadn’t stepped in to help her grandfather.
Family drama like this felt familiar to many viewers. They understood wanting to finally say what had been building up, even at a funeral. For them, the Michigan mom’s honesty mattered more than where she chose to speak.
