New York-based rapper Nicki Minaj is being mocked online after her former lawyers claimed that she owes them nearly $300,000 in unpaid legal fees.

According to Rolling Stone, Minaj’s former lawyers returned to court while the rapper was publicly expressing support for Republicans during the midterm elections. The attorneys renewed their claims that Minaj has yet to settle an outstanding legal bill totaling nearly $300,000.

According to the publication, lawyers for the firm Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani “filed their renewed request for default judgment.” The attorneys claim that Minaj breached their legal agreement and now owes the firm $295,605 in unpaid legal services, fees, and interest.

The firm previously represented Minaj in a copyright infringement lawsuit involving her song “I Lied.” The lawsuit alleged that the rapper copied the instrumentation and beat of a copyrighted song titled “onmysleeve” by Julius Johnson. Rolling Stone reported that the case ended in a private settlement and was subsequently dismissed.

The firm also stated that its lawsuit, originally filed in March, “has not been responded to in any way by [the rapper].” According to the attorneys, more than 30 days have passed since Minaj was served with the lawsuit without a response, prompting them to seek a default judgment for $295,605. A hearing on the request is scheduled for November 16.

This is not the first time Minaj has faced legal disputes involving money. In March 2026, production company 24/7 Productions sued the rapper and her company, Pink Friday Productions, alleging that they failed to reimburse more than $275,000 in expenses related to two events held in 2023. However, Minaj later disputed the allegations and denied being personally responsible for the payments.

Previously, in 2021, Minaj agreed to pay singer Tracy Chapman $450,000 to settle a copyright infringement lawsuit. It involved her unreleased song “Sorry,” which used elements of Chapman’s “Baby Can I Hold You” without permission.

Others continued mocking Minaj over the allegations, with some expressing satisfaction over the criticism she has been facing. “LMAOOOO the entire world is cooking her right now and I absolutely LOVE to see it! It’s what she deserves,” one person wrote. Another commented, “I love watching evil get destroyed. Stay on her neck!!!.” Someone else referenced the Republicans’ midterm election losses, adding, “not even 24h since the magas loss and the debt reports are already coming, oh nicki.”

The allegations against Minaj highlighted the public attention celebrities often receive in money-related legal disputes. The reactions also reflected how her political affiliations have influenced some people’s opinions of her. Several critics expressed little sympathy for the rapper amid her latest legal troubles.
