Anti-ICE activists in Vermont faced criticism online after holding a mock funeral procession featuring cardboard coffins representing people they described as victims of ICE.

Several people have lost their lives in incidents involving ICE and other federal immigration agents, while others have died in ICE custody. Among the most widely reported cases are Renee Nicole Good, who was fatally shot by an ICE officer in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on January 7, 2026, and Alex Pretti, who was killed by Border Patrol agents in the same city on January 24, 2026. Their deaths have prompted protests and intensified concerns about the use of force during federal immigration enforcement operations.

The video shared online showed the anti-ICE activists walking in a mock funeral procession, with some carrying cardboard coffins designed to resemble those used in actual funerals. One of the coffins had “rip” written on it.

The footage also showed that the procession stretched across a considerable distance, with a large number of participants. Many carried signs resembling gravestones, which appeared to display the names of people who had been killed by ICE agents. A small musical band also accompanied the activists, playing music as the procession moved forward. It remains unclear how long the event lasted or who organized it.

The anti-ICE activists faced criticism online, with many commenters shifting the focus to people who had been killed by immigrants living in the country illegally. Critics questioned why the activists organized a funeral procession for those who died in incidents involving immigration enforcement agents while seemingly overlooking victims of crimes committed by undocumented immigrants.

Some pointed to Laken Riley and Jocelyn Nungaray, arguing that they deserved similar attention and public demonstrations. Others accused the activists of showing selective sympathy based on their political beliefs.

Viewers Slam Vermont Anti-ICE Activists Over Funeral Procession

Many viewers online criticized the Vermont anti-ICE activists over their funeral procession, arguing that they should also mourn people who had been killed by immigrants living in the country illegally. “Any gravestones for the victims of illegals crimes? I bet not,” one person wrote. Another called for a similar demonstration honoring those victims, saying, “Now do a funeral march honoring all the dead victims of illegal immigrants.”

Others continued criticizing the activists, questioning why similar demonstrations had not been held for victims of crimes committed by undocumented immigrants. “Did they hold a funeral procession for Jocelyn Nungaray?” one person asked. Another mocked the participants, writing, “So how many Americans were killed by illegals. I must have missed that funeral procession. Just a bunch of Hippies and theater kids.”

The reactions to the video highlighted the ongoing divide over immigration enforcement and protests against ICE. While anti-ICE activists have raised concerns about deaths involving federal immigration agents, their critics have questioned why similar attention is not given to victims of crimes committed by undocumented immigrants. The disagreement also reflected how opposing views on immigration continue to fuel criticism and tension between the two sides.
