Actor Jonathan Groff Joins Doctor Who’s’ New Era
Jonathan Groff is hopping aboard the Tardis in series 14 of Doctor Who, which will begin a new era for Doctor Who. This series will see Ncuti Gatwa taking on the role of the heroic Time Lord, with Millie Gibson portraying his companion, Ruby Sunday. It will also mark the return of Russell T. Davies as showrunner and Murray Gold as a composer. Davies and Gold will mark their returns with the three Doctor Who 60th Anniversary specials airing this November. Gatwa’s first appearance as the Doctor will take place during these specials.
We recently got a glimpse of what’s coming with Doctor Who series 14 when the BBC shared images from the set. These images featured Gatwa and Gibson in 60’s garb. We also saw drag queen Jinkx Monsoon as “the Doctor’s most powerful enemy yet.”
While we may not know the nature of Jonathan Groff’s role yet, the actor is excited to be a part of Doctor Who. Groff said, “I am so thrilled to jump into the extraordinary mind of Russell T Davies and watch the incredible Ncuti Gatwa soar in this iconic role.” Davies echoed this enthusiasm saying, “This is an incredible coup, and a great honor, to get such a huge star striding onto our set. So strap on your space boots. This is going to be a blast.”
