The Apple TV+ Godzilla series has announced five stars to make up for the cast. Starring will be Anna Sawai (Pachinko), Ren Watabe (461 Days of Bento), Kiersey Clemons (Hearts Beat Loud), Joe Tippett (Mare of Easttown), and Elisa Lasowski (Versailles). The untitled project will focus on the iconic monster and the Titans.
Some character details have been announced too. Sawai plays Cate, a G-Day survivor and former schoolteacher who travels to Japan for family affairs, only to discover a family secret. So rather than running as she usually does, she sticks to her ground to find answers. Watabe plays Kentaro, who is looking to find more about his father while looking for his talents. Clemons stars as May, an American ex-pat who protects herself and others by being ahead of anyone else. Tippett will play Tim, an office drone wanting to become an agent, which gets him in trouble. Finally, Lasowski plays the operative Duvall, who has a wry sense of humor and confidence in her skills in the field, which helps guide her colleague.
Matt Shakman, a TV director, known for WandaVision, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and more, will direct the first two episodes while serving as an executive producer for the Apple TV+ Godzilla series. Chris Black (Outcast) will act as executive producer and showrunner with co-creator Matt Fraction (Hawkeye). Joby Harold, Tory Tunnell, Hiro Matsuoka, and Takemasa Arita will executive produce.
