Arizona Driver Goes Viral After Complaining About Ticket for Driving 56 in a 55 Zone: ‘Was the Stop Really Worth It?’

Enforcing the law to a T

It’s important to follow the law, naturally, but one Arizona resident feels as though the local police went a bit too far with their stringency. Posting to r/mildlyinfuriating under the username Purple_Knowledge8475, the individual uploaded their speeding ticket, for going 56 mph in a 55 zone. “Was the stop really worth it?” they wrote, questioning the judgment of the officers who stopped them.

Got a ticket for going 56 in a 55…

The regular speed limit for the road was actually 75 mph; however, Purple_Knowledge8475 says that it is currently a construction zone, hence the 55 requirement. That said, the police officer allegedly pulled out in front of the driver first, then got behind them and began tailing them before eventually pulling them over.

Purple_Knowledge8475  also added how, even though there were no construction workers around, the officer said they should have “slowed it down for them,” them being the non-existent people. Another thing OP pointed out was that the cop didn’t use his radar to track their speed; he claimed to have known that they were speeding because he was “pacing” them.

Tens of thousands of other Redditors also felt mildly infuriated on Purple_Knowledge8475’s account, with many agreeing that the officer’s ticket for an alleged 1 mph difference was totally unnecessary. “That’s a complete load of BS, but unfortunately the only way to right it is to lose a day of work going in,” wrote a commenter, suggesting OP challenge this ticket in court.

Reddit Encouraged the Arizona Driver to Contest the Ticket in Court

“I guarantee you can get out of this by contesting it. 1 MPH is deep in the error margin on most methods of reading vehicle speed,” remarked another. Some were less optimistic about the driver taking things up with a judge since they claim the policeman won’t be penalized for a ‘bad ticket.’ “Court. Cop won’t show. You waste 3-4 hours of your life. Cop suffers no consequences. Roll on,” said a Redditor.

Recommendations of court hearings aside, many users joked about how egregious it was for OP to reportedly go over the speed limit by 1. “Hard to believe there’s criminals like you roaming free amongst civilized society,” chuckled one user. “They should have locked you up, Mr. Criminal,” quipped another.

Purple_Knowledge8475 has yet to confirm whether they’re taking up the ticket against the policeman in court. One thing is certain, though: if the officer really did simply tail the driver just to accuse them of speeding 1 mph over the limit in an empty construction zone, something rather shifty is going on.
