The right BG3 build for Lae’zel can turn our fierce warrior into an unwavering, hard-hitting companion who can face almost anyone in Baldur’s Gate 3. Lae’zel lives up to her race’s reputation quite well. She’s rough around the edges, makes no apologies for it, and brutally cuts down any enemy in her path. Our Githayanki Fighter has the right design for a solid tank, even if you have Karlach in your party.
Best Lae’zel Build – Fighter Class
Although you can interact with Withers as Lae’zel and respec her, why would you? She’s a reliable Fighter character.
You’ll run into Lae’zel on the ship near the start of your adventure. It will give you a good idea of how she plays. However, you won’t get into her build until you recruit her later. When she’s not snapping back and forth with Shadowheart, she’s more than helpful on the battlefield.
For her BG3 build, you want Lae’zel to be as aggressive as possible. She can rush in ahead to deal massive and lasting damage with a two-handed weapon. Before we get too far into the build, let’s check out her base stats and features first:
- Class: Fighter (Great Weapon)
- STR: 17
- DEX: 13
- CON: 15
- INT: 10
- WS: 12
- CHA: 8
The starter Lae’zel build in BG3 also contains the following skill proficiencies:
- Athletics
- Acrobatics
- Survival
- Intimidation
If you want to make the most of this early Baldur’s Gate 3 Lae’zel build, you’ll go through the first two Levels without much change. Once you reach Level 3, you’ll select a subclass. For our favorite build, we recommend Battle Master.
Battle Master Subclass Lae’zel Build in BG3
The Battle Master design takes advantage of Lae’zel’s high Strength stat. At Level 3, you’ll gain Superiority Dice. They’re d8s, and they come in handy for our ferocious warrior. You start with four, and you can replenish them after a Rest.
As you craft your Lae’zel build in BG3 at this Level, you’ll also choose three Manoeuvers. We recommend starting with these:
- Menacing Attack: Deals an additional 1d8 damage with the chance to Frighten the enemy
- Pushing Attack: Attack deals an additional 1d8 damage and might push the target back
- Rally: Gives an ally eight temporary HP
The design ensures Lae’zel will land heavy blows but can also look out for her allies. Remember that each Manoeuver spends a Superiority Dice.
From here, you’ll go through the usual Fighter leveling system. By Level 7, you will gain another Superiority Die and can choose two more Manoeuvers. To keep a strong Lae’zel build in BG3, consider these two:
- Disarming Attack: Deal additional damage and may make the target drop their weapon
- Distracting Attack: Distracts the target to give allies an advantage to their attack rolls
For the remainder Battle Master progression, Lae’zel will gain Improved Combat Superiority by Level 10. It increases the size of those Superiority Dice to 1d10. Lastly, Level 11 lets you choose two final Manoeuvers. So, let’s go with these to finish off the build:
- Evasive Footwork: Imposes Disadvantage on melee attacks against you for a round so you can evade
- Sweeping Attack: Swings the weapon in a large arc to damage multiple enemies at once
Helping Lae’zel to evade is useful for an effective BG3 build, more so if you have her leading the charge. Meanwhile, Sweeping Attack maximizes her damage.
Best Lae’zel Fighter Feats
While you work through the basic Fighter Levels with Lae’zel, you will come across different moments when you can choose Feats. Feats provide more expertise for your characters. It will happen at Levels 4, 6, 8, and 12. However, if you don’t want to choose a Feat, you can opt for an attribute improvement.
- Level 4 Choice: We want to raise our attributes at this stage. Lae’zel is effective with better Strength and Constitution. So, split the points between the two here.
- Level 6 Choice: Let’s improve our Strength ability again. It’s a great way to get our Lae’zel BG3 build as strong as possible. You should be at Strength 20 at this point.
- Level 8 Choice: Now we can choose a Feat. Let’s go with the Great Weapon Master Feat. When you land a crit hit or kill an enemy, you can follow it up with another attack as a bonus action. It’s especially helpful against the stronger enemies you’ll face further in the game.
- Level 12 Choice: The Tough Feat is a solid choice. It will maximize Lae’zel’s HP by 2 for each Level she’s gained, keeping her better protected.
