Baldur’s Gate 3 is bound to be one of the biggest and deepest RPGs in recent years. While we’ve had many other games of the genre, no other compares to this one in terms of mechanics, choices, and even the number of endings. For those who have the game, one of the biggest choices of it is choosing a class. While you can multi-class later in the game, the starting class is a big decision that will determine how the first hours of your adventure will go. For that, we’ve prepared our personal class tier list for Baldur’s Gate 3, with the best classes you can grab from the start.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Class Tier List – Best Classes for New Players

If you’re unfamiliar with the mechanics of Baldur’s Gate 3, this game uses the rules from the fifth edition of Dungeons & Dragons with a few things tweaked for the game. If you’ve played this game during Early Access, you might know a few things already. Yet, it isn’t a requirement to know them if you want to enjoy this RPG. In our class tier list of Baldur’s Gate 3, we’ve picked the ones we think are the best classes for certain things. It is important to remember that every class is great for a playthrough; ultimately, all that matters is that you enjoy playing it.

Bard – S Tier

Most people never pick Bards due to them not having a heroic look or a big weapon to take down foes, but we kid you not; they are the best support in the game. A bard in your party is essential due to all the skills it brings. Plus, starting at level one, you can get many cantrips and skills to make your exploration easier. If you don’t mind these classes, Bard is a great choice for those who enjoy supporting others.

Paladin – S Tier

Paladins have a fantastic skillset, and it gets better depending on the Oath they pick. While they can also become Oathbreakers and get some fun skills, we recommend sticking to a chosen Oath. Doing so will unlock powerful skills and upgrade others, such as Divine Smite, one of the game’s best skills to do damage. Besides that, picking Paladin opens up some interesting conversation options worth checking out.

Fighter – S Tier

If you played during the Early Access, you know how strong Fighters are. They are one of the most versatile classes in the game and offer a lot of damage accompanied by high survivability skills. With many combat options, Fighters are some of the best frontline damage dealers.

Cleric – S Tier

Many think Clerics only work as healers or supporting characters in the backlines, but in reality, they pack a Holy punch like no other. If you want to support instead, this class offers many debuffing skills to keep enemies at bay while others to the heavy hitting. Plus, this class features many domains you can choose to customize your playthrough further.

Sorcerer – S Tier

Many think the Wizard should be higher on our Baldur’s Gate 3 class tier list, but Sorcerer is, without a doubt, one of the best classes in the game. The reason why we think its S tier is due to meta-magic. This skill will let Sorcerers customize certain aspects of their spells and add some fun things to make their spellcasting more powerful.

Monk – A Tier

It was one of the last classes that were revealed for the game. This class is quite versatile and offers many options regarding roleplaying and mechanics. You can be a sneaky monk akin to a ninja or go toe-to-toe with your opponents during a fight. Monks are great when built right, and you shouldn’t neglect to have one at your party.

Wizard – A Tier

The Wizard is your usual glass cannon in an RPG. They can deal tremendous amounts of damage while having the largest number of skills available in the game. The only reason they aren’t higher up on the list is because Sorcerers bring meta-magic, which is already a fantastic feature for that class.

Warlock – A Tier

Warlocks are a bit beefier in the game compared to other spellcasters. They can wear Light Armor, which is already a win compared to others, but again, no one can dethrone the Sorcerer yet. One thing to know about this class is that you can build it to make it more melee-oriented. It won’t outshine other melee classes, but it isn’t bad to try it.

Druid – B Tier

The fact that the upcoming classes are low on our Baldur’s Gate 3 class tier doesn’t mean they are bad. You can use them and finish the game with them with no issues, but we consider others to perform better at certain roles. The Druid, while it lets you shapeshift and cast some interesting spells, is the classic jack-of-all-trades, master of none.

Barbarian – B Tier

This class is there for those who like channeling their inner rage and letting it all out when fighting. It is a fantastic roleplay option, but in terms of gameplay, there are better melee damage dealers. However, due to their high constitution, they are a great class in the frontline.

Ranger – B Tier

A Ranger is yet another versatile that can be great with every weapon. If you want them to act like a Fighter, you can do it. Do you want them to play as a Rogue? That’s viable as well! Yet, they won’t be the best at those things, but they will still provide several useful things throughout an adventure, and that’s why having a Ranger is a must.

Rogue – B Tier

Last but not least, we have the Rogue. The fact that it is last on our tier list doesn’t mean playing as a Rogue is bad. The only reason why they are here is because it can be a bit challenging for new players to use a rogue efficiently. However, with some practice and the right positioning, you’ll have an excellent damage dealer in your party.
