Larian Studios has confirmed that Baldur’s Gate 3 will come to Xbox Series X|S in December, with the date to be revealed soon. Larian Studios shared the news on Twitter, writing, “Xbox players, we hear you’re looking for more news on Baldur’s Gate 3. The game is on track for a December release. We’ll see you at The Game Awards for the World Premiere of the exact release date.” Baldur’s Gate 3 is nominated for eight awards at The Game Awards, tied for the most with Alan Wake 2, including the Game of the Year award. A recent leak suggests that the release date might be a fun surprise.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Could Release During The Game Awards
There is a possibility that Baldur’s Gate 3 could shadow drop during The Game Awards. A recent report by Exputer suggested that Larian Studio was targeting a December 6 date for Baldur’s Gate 3 on Xbox. The Game Awards takes place on December 7, so it is feasible that the date could shift by one day. Larian Studios did deny the report, but there is one other reason this could happen. Baldur’s Gate 3 doesn’t have a physical version on PC or PlayStation, and the Xbox launch is likely to be digital only at first, making a surprise release much easier.
Baldur’s Gate 3 was released on PC and PlayStation earlier this year but missed Xbox initially due to Larian Studio having trouble with the Xbox Series S. The studio couldn’t get split-screen co-op working well on the lower-powered console, and Xbox rules at the time dictated that there needed to be parity between the two versions. Xbox eventually made an exception for Larian Studio, who has been working on the Xbox version since.
Larian Studio has reconfirmed multiple times that the Xbox version is on track for a 2023 release, with December now being the target. While it might drop later in the month, a surprise release could happen during The Game Awards. Either way, Xbox players looking to play one of the year’s best games should tune in to The Game Awards on December 7.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is available on PC and PlayStation 5.
