A New York adult son asked the internet whether he was overreacting after getting upset over his 50-year-old mother taping up his washer and dryer. Posting to r/AmIOverreacting under the username Bnsaiboy, the son claims his mom barged into his room and stared while he was undressed, after which she sent some disturbing texts related to his body and privacy. After he showed disdain for her behavior, she allegedly retaliated by trying to stop him from doing his laundry.
Needless to say, hundreds of Redditors are on the son’s side with this predicament: his senior mother’s behavior is anything but normal. Not to mention, OP has accused her of having a “weird obsession” with his sex life and physical body. “Always asking me questions regarding it,” he wrote.
Bnsaiboy explains how he’s never been on good terms with his mom. “[I] have been through CPS, family therapy, all that,” he wrote, sharing that he has plans to move out as soon as possible. For context, the main reason behind her taping the laundry machines was that he refused a hug from her after her inappropriate behavior over his undressed body in his room days before.
While the tape is abnormal, commenters were more concerned about how she treated his privacy. “The taped washer is weird, but the comments and staring crossed a much bigger line. I get why OP feels off, that’s not normal parent behavior,” wrote a user. “A common symptom of abusive mothers is to sexualize their sons,” pointed out another.
“This is beyond disturbing,” exclaimed a third, suggesting the son check his bathroom and bedroom for hidden cameras. Plenty of others agreed that the mom is mentally unwell and that the son should prioritize moving out, now that he’s an adult.
