Before you can set sail, would-be pirates must select their gruff, swashbuckling appearance. But instead of creating a character, the game will offer an endless selection of randomly generated character models through the Infinite Pirate Generator system. Some players may choose whichever avatar first catches their eye, while others may take a longer time cycling through them. However, what happens if you later regret your choice? Is it possible to change your character appearance in Sea of Thieves and how?

Sea of Thieves: How to Change Your Character’s Look
In short, you can either buy Pirate Appearance Potion or reset your character to change your pirate’s looks. However, while there are two ways to do so, the process may not appeal to everyone.
For the first option, you must head over to the “Pirate” tab in the Pirate Emporium in-game store. This shop can be found on any Outpost or from the main menu and features a plethora of cosmetics to spice up your appearance. But to change your character, you must buy the Pirate Appearance Potion. It costs 149 Ancient Coins, which amounts to roughly a little over $2, and lets you regenerate your avatar from the Infinite Pirate Generator again.
The bad news is, as mentioned above, you can only pick one of the randomly generated character designs again. You cannot manually change your Sea of Thieves character. Plus, like all virtual currency out there, you can only purchase Ancient Coins in bundles. The bundles to fulfill the cost of the Pirate Appearance Potion would be either:
- Two Secret Stash of the Ancients bundle, containing 100 Ancient Coins for $1.49.
- One Lost Chest of the Ancients bundle, containing 500 Ancient Coins for $5.49.
If you insist on changing your character in Sea of Thieves for free, the only alternative is to reset your pirate by deleting the character. You should be able to find the option in the “Settings” menu in “Game Options.” Unsurprisingly, this also comes with a huge caveat. All of your progress will also be reset– meaning you will lose Reputation levels, in-game money, Commendations, Titles, and even cosmetics!
With that in mind, the Pirate Appearance Potion is basically your best bet to change character in Sea of Thieves. It may take a few minutes to a couple of hours of cycling through the generator, but you won’t lose any progress made so far. Hopefully, you’ll find a character that suits your pirating and adventuring taste.
Sea of Thieves is available on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5
