You may recall that yesterday, we covered Nerial’s next title Orwell’s Animal Farm. It’s an adaptation of George Orwell’s novel Animal Farm, focusing on managing who’s equal and who’s more equal. It’s definitely a far cry from their original title Reigns, but we’re excited about it regardless. Unbeknownst to us though, Nerial still had one more card to play. At today’s Nintendo Indie World showcase, Nerial and Devolver Digital revealed Card Shark, set to release on Nintendo Switch and PC in 2021. You can find the trailer shown off at the Indie World showcase below.
Card Shark is much closer to Reigns, being focused around cards. Using your quick wits, and a few tricks, you’ll cheat your way through individual card games. Each of these games raises you up the game’s setting of 18th century France, being more well renown with each game you win. As you make your way up the ladder, you can use your ill-gotten gains to not only learn more tricks but also make your way into higher stakes games. Use your strategy, intellect, and cheats to make your way up to the top. Be careful though, as fellow card players don’t take to kindly to your “honorable techniques”.
From what we’ve seen and heard so far, I’m already intrigued. Being an 18th-century card shark is seldom used for card games, giving it a unique backdrop among the card game genre. Not only that, but a focus on cheats help to break it apart as well. It seems Nerial is very much focusing on unique experiences with their works, and it shows with the past several titles from them. I’m excited to see just how they decide to make Card Shark unique when it releases next year.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on this announcement. Do you think Card Shark will stand apart from other titles in the card game genre? What do you think of Nerial’s title Reigns? Let us know, and stay tuned at The Nerd Stash for all your news, reviews, and more!
