Carrie Underwood has sparked a lot of controversy by announcing that she was set to perform at Donald Trump’s Presidential Inauguration. The country music singer revealed the big news this week, claiming she’s honored to be a part of the big day. However, many fans were stunned by her decision. Some even claimed they would no longer support the Jesus Take The Wheel singer after she appeared to show her political affiliation. Now, the decision may be impacting her career as a judge on American Idol.
According to The U.S. Sun, Carrie Underwood’s upcoming performance at Donald Trump’s inauguration is said to be causing a stir behind the scenes at American Idol. Underwood allegedly didn’t tell anyone at the reality singing competition show about her plans to perform at the event. Now, some are upset by her decision. They’re even said to be worried that fans may boycott watching the show in protest of the singer affiliation with Trump.
Currently, Underwood’s job isn’t in jeopardy yet. However, there is a bit of an uproar going on behind the scenes because of her recent announcement.
Carrie Underwood Inauguration Performance Not Going Over Well At American Idol
“Carrie’s job is not in jeopardy. It doesn’t conflict with any of her Idol taping dates and [the inauguration] is before this season airs, so it doesn’t go against anything in her contract,” an insider dished. “But there are producers that don’t approve and are worried. I don’t think anyone at the show knew about Carrie singing at the inauguration ahead of it coming out, it caught them all off guard.
“A lot of viewers are already speaking of a boycott, whether or not that’s true or just noise will be seen after the ratings come in but the conversation it now brings Idol into is not what producers want,” the source added. “They don’t want the show to get political, they want it to be an escape from that.”
In addition, Carrie’s fellow judges, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie, are also rumored to be upset. Idol host Ryan Seacrest will also likely be brought into the drama as well. All three men will certainly be subject to questions during interviews. Of course, that’s not something they’d like to comment on.
Previously, Underwood claimed that she tried to stay out of politics in public. However, she appeared to be excited to answer the call from Trump’s team. The singer is now slated to sing America The Beautiful. She’ll join The Armed Forces Chorus and The United States Navel Academy Glee Club for the performance. She’ll sing just after Trump takes his presidential oath for the second time.
“I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event. I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future,’ she said in a statement to USA Today on Monday.
In addition to Carrie Underwood, singer Christopher Macchio will also perform at the inauguration. As for the other famous faces that will be in attendance at the event, stars like Amber Rose, Caitlyn Jenner, and Megyn Kelly will be there. Internet celebrities such as Logan Paul, Jake Paul will also appear. Theo Von, Bryce Hall, and the Nelk Boys have been invited to the inauguration as well, per The Cut.
It remains to be seen if Carrie Underwood’s decision to share a connection with Donald Trump will have any real impact on her music career. However, sources claim that the execs at American Idol will certainly be keeping an eye on the ratings. If they see any signs that they’ve lost viewership because of the singer’s choice, things could get ugly.
