Seething Sigh is the final boss of the Resentment Confession in Darkest Dungeon 2. It looks intimidating and it can deal a lot of damage to your party if you aren’t prepared. Fortunately, once you catch on to its tricks and pay attention, this boss fight isn’t too difficult. You must keep your health high and manage everyone’s stress. Ensure that your characters are capable of hitting the first and fourth enemy positions, or you will struggle in this fight. With the right preparation and a good strategy, you can defeat Seething Sigh to get more memories for your team and progress to the next Confession.

How to Defeat Seething Sigh in Darkest Dungeon 2

Seething Sigh takes all four enemy positions. Its lungs take the first and fourth positions, while its main body takes the second and third positions. To win the battle, you must defeat Seething Sigh’s main body. You don’t have to defeat the lungs, but it will stop Sundering Exhalation from being deadly.

Seething Sigh has the following moves in Darkest Dungeon 2:

Move Effects
Sundering Exhalation Hits all party members and increases their stress. Power is increased when a Lung takes a Breath.
Wrath and Rancor Hits a single party member, inflicting Burn and increasing their stress.
Hysteria Hits a single party member, lowering their Attack and shuffling their position.
Blind Rage Hits a single party member, inflicting  Blind and Mark. Also gives Seething Sigh a 75% defense boost.
Dying Light Hits a single party member, increasing their stress and knocking them back.

At the start of combat, Seething Sigh will always use Shallow Breath to fill one of its lungs. You must deal a small amount of damage to the lung to remove its Breath buff. If you don’t, Sundering Exhalation is used and it deals great damage and stress to the party. If a lung receives enough damage, Sundering Exhalation won’t be used. Seething Sigh moves twice per combat turn, and its other moves are damaging. Fortunately, they are only limited to single targets which makes healing easier.

Your first priority is targeting the lung that has taken a Breath. After you neutralize the threat, throw your best attacks against its main body. Bleed, Blight, and Burn work well as Seething Sigh doesn’t have high resistances. Moving twice also means it takes more damage from those status effects. The main body can also be affected by Mark, Stun, and other debuffs.

The Hellion, Highwayman, and Grave Robber can equip skills that let them hit both lungs for decent damage. If you bring the Leper, Runaway, Flagellant, and/or Man-at-Arms, they are capable of dealing great amounts of damage to the left lung and Seething Sigh’s main body. The Occultist, Vestal, and Plague Doctor are great at damaging the main body and the right lung. For healing, the Vestal or Occultist is good, though the Vestal should ensure they can defend and heal.

You must divide your time between the lungs and the main body, or Seething Sigh will get the better of you. If you have Combat Items that can heal debuffs or status effects, bring those along as well. Trinkets that increase debuff resistance or boost a character’s ability to dodge are recommended as well.

Always watch your health since Seething Sigh never stops attacking you. Sundering Exhalation should always be your first priority, but it’s easier to focus on the fight when it is no longer a threat. Its last move will always be Sundering Exhalation in case you need more time to attack the lung.

This is an endurance battle as you will trade attacks with Seething Sigh, healing as you go. Prioritize healing if your party gets too weak, as the fight is difficult to complete if anyone dies. As long as everyone’s health stays high and you balance your targets properly, this battle isn’t too difficult. If you are powerful enough to defeat the lungs, then you can focus on Seething Sigh’s main body and finish this challenging Darkest Dungeon 2 fight.
