Death Stranding, the first game from Kojima Productions, is apparently a little behind schedule and that’s according to the main man himself, Hideo Kojima. There seems to be nothing to worry about, Death Stranding has just had some minor issues in the development process. The video game legend/lunatic had this to say regarding the delay:

“It’s common for studios to fall behind their planned release date, and Death Stranding is very slightly behind our initial plan, but not behind by much.”

Considering we haven’t actually been given a release date for the title, it’s nice that Kojima is giving us all a bit of an update, especially as details of the game are quite scarce, we’re being drip-fed in the usual teasing way that Kojima has enjoyed so much over the years. He had indicated in January that the game was due out in 2019, but that was more of a hint than anything concrete.

Reedus searching for the release date

Death Stranding was initially announced in 2016 after the infamous Kojima/Konami fallout due to the rising costs of Metal Gear Solid v, a game that came out unfinished. The collector’s edition of the game gave details of a chapter 51 that had been intended to help finish the story, alas, it was not to be. Prior to his departure from Konami he had been working on, the now canceled, Silent Hills, along with Guillermo Del Toro and starring The Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus.

Following the cancelation, the pair have stayed loyal to Kojima and are working on Death Stranding with him. Once again, Reedus will star in what has been described as an open world action game. From what we’ve seen so far it looks all kind of messed up, see for yourselves.

I’m thankful for the update but I’m also chomping at the bit for more information and a playable version to look at. There are a few lucky people who have had the chance to get their hands on it, namely Norman Reedus and Jordan Vogt-Roberts, director of the future Metal Gear Solid movie. Now, I just want my turn.

For now, we all just have to sit patiently and await more news and a release date. I for one am quite skeptical this game will actually release on the PS4 if I was a betting man I’d say it’ll be a PS5 launch title. There are also some people that believe the game will actually be Silent Hills, after all, the whole fallout being a ruse. I’d like to believe this so much, it would be the ultimate Kojima troll move, which makes it somewhat plausible, I could see it and I’d be happy, but it’s probably just an internet pipe dream, unfortunately. Both the Silent Hill and Metal Gear franchises are probably dead at this point, Konami only seems to be interested in PES and Pachinko. At least we have Death Stranding to look forward to.
