For the past Season, Auto Rifles have been in an excellent spot for both PvE and PvP content in Destiny 2. That said, only ten can be considered “the best” of the bunch, and with Season of the Deep rapidly closing in, we’ll likely see new additions to the list. With that in mind, it’s time to discuss the best Auto Rifles for PvE and PvP in Season of Defiance of Destiny 2.
Best Auto Rifles For PvE In Destiny 2 (Season of Defiance)
- Quicksilver Storm- Obtained from Neomuna Exotic quest.
- Duty Bound- Obtained from completing Nightfall strikes. (Only when it is featured in a given week)
- Perpetualis- Obtained from completing Season of Defiance activities.
- Rufus’s Fury- Obtained from completing encounters in the Root of Nightmares Raid. (Not a guaranteed drop)
- Seventh Seraph Carbine- Obtained from completing encounters in the Spire of the Watcher Dungeon. (Not a guaranteed drop)
- Ammit AR2- Obtained from decrypting Prime Engrams.
- Sweet Sorrow- Obtained from the Gunsmith via direct purchase or decrypting a Gunsmith Engram.
- Hard Light- Obtained from Exotic Kiosk.
- Reckless Oracle- Obtained from completing encounters in the Garden of Salvation Raid. (Not a guaranteed drop)
- Tommy’s Matchbook- Obtained from Exotic Kiosk.
For PvE content, Season of Defiance, along with the Lightfall DLC, have provided multiple top-tier Auto Rifles for players to abuse. The Exotic Auto Rifle, Quicksilver Storm, has become a Strand weapon, making it a must-run weapon for nearly all Strand builds.
If the player wants to avoid running Quicksilver Storm, then Rufus’s Fury or Perpetualis make great substitutions. Perpetualis is much easier to obtain but doesn’t have a great perk pool like Rufus’s Fury does, so it’s up to the player on which they choose. Either way, both are great additions to the list.
The Ammit is mainly used for PvP activities these days, but a roll with Incandescent can still get the job done in most PvE activities with relative ease. While Season of Defiance is still live, the Reckless Oracle Auto Rifle from the Garden of Salvation Raid is an excellent weapon in Void builds with the Volatile Rounds mod.
Overall, Auto Rifles are in an excellent spot for PvE content at the moment, though we could use some Arc or Stasis versions to help those subclasses out. Hopefully, Season of the Deep will provide some in the near future.
Best Auto Rifles For PvP In Destiny 2 (Season of Defiance)
- Rufus’s Fury- Obtained from completing encounters in the Root of Nightmares Raid. (Not a guaranteed drop)
- Perpetualis- Obtained from completing Season of Defiance activities.
- Ammit AR2- Obtained from decrypting Prime Engrams.
- Quicksilver Storm- Obtained from Neomuna Exotic quest.
- Sweet Business- Obtained from Exotic Kiosk.
- Hard Light- Obtained from Exotic Kiosk.
- Tommy’s Matchbook- Obtained from Exotic Kiosk.
- Suros Regime- Obtained from Exotic Kiosk.
- Duty Bound- Obtained from completing Nightfall strikes. (Only when it is featured in a given week)
- Tigerspite- Obtained from completing Dreaming City activities. (Not a guaranteed drop)
Auto Rifles are in a decent spot in the current PvP sandbox. Unfortunately, with the exception of a few outliers, they can’t compete against most Hand Cannons or Pulse Rifles. That said, they can do some solid work up close to medium range.
New additions include Rufus’s Fury, Perpetualis, and the fully upgraded Quicksilver Storm. In particular, Rufus’s Fury has spent no time climbing the ranks as one of the most potent weapons to use in PvP. With the right perks, it can easily shred anything in its path.
That said, Rufus’s Fury is much harder to obtain than Perpetualis, so for those not interested in Raids, Perpetualis is an excellent substitute with a solid perk pool.
In the hands of a true Titan main, the Sweet Business remains the scariest weapon to square off against. Although, it does leave the user pretty vulnerable if there is more than one enemy to defeat.
As mentioned before, the Ammit is mainly used for PvP activities. Since its release, it’s arguably has been the strongest Legendary Auto Rifle to use other than Rufus’s Fury. Its perk pool and impressive stats allow the user to go toe-to-toe with most weapons in the game.
Overall, Auto Rifles in PvP are in an OK spot but could definitely use some help to risk the ranks in usage once more. Hopefully, Season of the Deep will give them the buffs they need to shine.
