‘Everyone Got Brand New Toys Except Us’: Florida Locals Say the Election Results Are the Equivalent of Getting Coal for Christmas

The race was pretty close

You know it’s a sad day for some in Florida when they’re feeling jealous of other states over the election results. By now, everyone knows that the Sunshine State remains red. Even though some races were close and it looked as though things might turn out differently, Republicans still came out victorious. Meanwhile, as residents in other states celebrate Democratic victories like an early Christmas present, some disappointed Floridians feel as though they’ve been left with a lump of coal instead.

Despite many residents believing there would be a glimmer of hope during the elections, the GOP ended up winning in the midterms. Donalds will be in the governor’s race, Moody will represent the state in the Senate, and so on.

Many Florida locals have already expressed their disappointment with the election results, although some also found reasons to be optimistic. While Republicans maintained their grip on the Sunshine State, the closer contests gave some Democratic supporters hope that Florida’s political landscape could eventually change. For now, however, those hoping to see the state turn blue will have to wait a little longer.

Yet, some residents can’t help but feel a bit jealous, at least according to this now-deleted Reddit post, where one user claimed the results felt like waking up on Christmas and finding coal under the tree while all other kids are playing with their gifts.

And even if some Floridians saw something positive in the midterms, particularly the strong voter participation and signs of a desire for change, others have been left disappointed by the outcome. The passage of the controversial Amendment 3 has only added to those frustrations among its opponents. The measure expands property-tax exemptions for homeowners, although critics warn that it could reduce funding for essential local services. In the end, it’s been a bleak election for many Floridians who were hoping for a different result.

Florida Residents Wanted a Different Outcome

With how close the results were, several locals have expressed their feelings about the results, many mentioning how they wanted the state to go blue.

“I was disappointed but not surprised.”

“Perfect! Everyone got brand new toys except us…“

And even if some are mostly down in the dumps due to this, there are some who remain hopeful that things may change in the future.

“It’s hard being so happy for the rest of the country when you’re stuck with the same old whatever it is we got. But at least my hope remains alive.“

As you can see, spirits aren’t particularly high among some Florida residents right now. However, with plenty of political changes still to come across the country, those disappointed by the election results are holding out hope that things could eventually change in the Sunshine State, too.
