Some of the stranger news and events tend to come from Florida, and this one isn’t an exception. Not long ago, Governor DeSantis announced that, in an effort to ease people’s commutes, the government would begin funding the Vertiport project. While the whole thing looks great on paper to many, several Florida residents are skeptical, as some don’t believe that those driving on the roads should be behind flying cars, which could lead to chaos.
For the unaware, Governor DeSantis signed a bill that would start flying car hubs. These hubs, according to CBS News, would serve as takeoff and landing sites for short-range aircraft that will transport commuters from one place to another. You can consider them flying taxis, as many have started to dub them.
According to the above report, the bill, accepted unanimously, will take effect on July 1, when the new fiscal year begins. And so far, the technology is in its very early stages, with only a few two-seat aircraft available for training, meaning it could take a while for Florida residents to see the whole “flying car” system working as intended, so they are skeptical.
Florida Citizens Are Not Convinced About the Whole ‘Flying Cars’ Idea Yet
Even if this can be seen as something great for the state down the line, as it will certainly ease some of the commuting woes that people suffer daily, several Redditors are not too convinced yet, with some of them even claiming that this could be a bad idea, especially with the track record of some Florida drivers not being the best in the country.
“Do you really want the drivers around you in the air?“
“Flying cars?! Cause the roads aren’t deadly enough!“
However, several other Redditors believe this is a bad idea, especially given other pressing matters across the state, and quickly shared their thoughts that this project isn’t something DeSantis should be prioritizing right now.
“Just another way to funnel money into his own pockets. Mark my words. They can’t complete simple road maintenance. You think we’re going to have flying cars anytime soon? Come on.“
“Anything except high-speed rails and public transportation, huh?”
In the end, the project is still far from being completed, so we’ll have to see how things evolve. Yet, by the looks of it, people are not completely happy about it, as they believe it will be an expensive service that will likely raise insurance prices and many other costs.
