Between a dramatic, game-changing story, and a fun new area to explore, Genshin Impact 4.2 is a fantastic patch so far. To echo the epicness of the patch, HoYoverse has also introduced a new weekly boss for players to grind. This boss, the All-Devouring Narwhal, has played a massive part in the newest Genshin Impact Fontaine Archon quest so far. Players finally get to encounter the aquatic mammal in Version 4.2. However, being a monster of epic proportions, the All-Devouring Narwhal has some unique mechanics that players must get used to before consistently taking the monster down. To make this easier, here’s a guide to help you get started fighting Genshin Impact 4.2’s All-Devouring Narwhal boss.
Genshin Impact 4.2 All-Devouring Narwhal Boss Guide
Overall, players are going to need to pay attention to:
Firstly, the main phase of Genshin Impact 4.2’s All-Devouring Narwhal fight is relatively straightforward. The Whale’s attacks are very easy to dodge, while they deal massive damage. This phase should be easy without getting hit or having an excellent shield character. Besides, players will want to keep up the damage, slowly whittling away at the Narwhal’s Irritation Meter. Since this is the only way to deal substantial damage, filling this meter should be your number one priority. Once it’s filled once, it should be set for the rest of the fight, though the Whale will still devour the player at times.
- Dive Attack: A large, yet slow, diving attack, where the Narwhal will dive through a large portal, smashing into the ground. This will summon pillars of water as well. Due to the slow nature of the attack, this is quite easy to dodge.
- Constellation Attack: The Narwhal will charge a massive attack over time, slowly calling upon stars that make a pattern in the sky. After some time, the Whale will summon pillars of light that deal high damage.
- Star Rain Attack: The Narwhal will summon multiple shooting stars that deal a moderate amount of damage. While not easy to dodge, getting hit by one or two stars won’t cause much damage.
- The Eye of the Maelstrom: At some point, the Eye of the Maelstrom will appear in the middle of the battlefield. If destroyed, the Narwhal’s Irritation Meter will fill up instantly.
- Irritation Meter: By dealing damage to the All-Devouring Narwhal or destroying the Eye of the Maelstrom, the player can fill the Narwhal’s Irritation Meter. After filling the meter, the boss will swallow the player, initiating a small mini-boss fight. Defeating this mini-boss will stun the Whale, allowing players to damage it. Before filling the meter, the Narwhal takes very little damage.
Genshin Impact 4.2 All-Devouring Narwhal Phase 2 Guide
Once Genshin Impact 4.2’s All-Devouring Narwhal has swallowed the player, they must face the Shadow. The Shadow brings up the difficulty level, adding mechanics like:
- Electro Attacks: These attacks include throwing a lightning sword, a repeated slash attack, and summoning lightning bolts. While these don’t do as much damage as the Whale, the Shadow is much faster and, therefore, much harder to dodge.
- Charging Attack: Eventually, the Shadow will start to charge a massive attack. The player can interrupt this attack using either Pneuma or Ousia energy. Besides interrupting the attack, this will also deal big damage to the Shadow’s shield.
- Shield: The Shadow has a shield that players will want to whittle away to deal massive damage to the Shadow. Breaking the shield will also end the mini-boss phase and stun the Whale.
This second mini-phase of the boss fight sees players facing off against the Shadow. Overall, the Shadow is much faster without sacrificing too much damage. The best way to handle this part of the fight is to play defensively until you can interrupt the Charging Attack for big damage. Besides this, slowly dealing damage may be helpful if you want a faster clear time. Once the shield is down, you will return to the All-Devouring Narwhal fight for your burst damage phase. Rinse and repeat this process, and you’ll eventually take down the massive Whale.
All-Devouring Narwhal Boss Location and Best Teams
The boss arena is located to the Southeast of the Court of Fontaine, hidden at the bottom of the sea. It shouldn’t be hard to find as players can instantly fast-travel to the Genshin Impact 4.2’s All-Devouring Narwhal Trounce Domain after unlocking it. For teams, players will want to focus on having a good healer or shielder to cover for any mistakes they make during the fight. Staying alive is a great priority since the beginning is an endurance fight. Besides, players should take whatever character they think will deal the most damage.
