Over a decade later, our neon bikes are getting their engines turned on. Gillian Anderson has joined the cast of Tron: Ares. The third film will see The Ex-Files star join Jared Leto, Jodie Turner-Smith, Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Cameron Monaghan, and Sarah Desjardins.
Not much is known about the next Tron movie, including details on Gillian Anderson’s character. All we know is that it is connected to the previous two films, and Leto will play the title character as Ares goes from the digital world to Earth. The production has recently begun its first week, as posted on Instagram by director Joachim Rønning (seen below). He posted a BTS picture. We don’t get much beyond a clear picture of a chair with Tr3n printed on it.
Gillian Anderson Added to Tron: Ares for the Sequel in the Making for Over a Decade
Deadline broke the news that the two-time Emmy-winning star has joined the ensemble. She is joining the film that was penned by Jesse Wigutow and Jack Thorne.
The sci-fi flicks have never made a quick turnaround on a sequel. The first film, starring Jeff Bridges, was released in 1982. He reprised his role as fictional video game creator Kevin Flynn in the 2010 sequel Tron: Legacy. He will not return to join Gillian Anderson and other newcomers to the universe for Tron: Ares.
The Ex-Files star is coming off the end of two of her most successful shows, The Crown and Sex Education. Previous popular works include Hannibal, The Fall, The Pale Blue Eye, and The First Lady. She recently wrapped Scoop, a film about Prince Andrew’s connection with Jeffrey Epstein. She will also shoot The Salt Path, based on Raynor Winn’s bestselling memoir of the same name.
