During a talk with Jake Shane on the Therapuss podcast, Anyone but You star Glen Powell made an interesting comment about canceled people, which fans immediately recognized as a statement on Charlie Kirk. The death of this right-wing podcaster has gotten many riled up to almost the same extent as when the assassination attempt on Trump was made. From movie stars to late-night show hosts, just about everyone has had their say about the murder victim, and now Glen Powell has seemingly made mention of Kirk, too.
After talking about how he refused a photo with a canceled actor at a Hollywood party, the Top Gun: Maverick (2022) cast member remarked about his role as Russ Holliday in Chad Powers. “He’s not a bad guy. Some of these other people that get canceled, they should lie where they’re shot,” Powell said, having a hearty chuckle afterward. Considering he paused and stuttered before the “lying where they’re shot” remark, many online users immediately speculated the actor was “alluding to Charlie Kirk.”
Glen Powell Earns Newfound Respect from Fans
It’s no secret that Charlie Kirk was a divisive public figure who was loved and hated by many. However, those guessing that Glen Powell was talking about the pro-gun podcaster who was shot showered the Hit Man star with praises. “Glen I apologise I was unfamiliar with your game,” remarks a commenter, with 15K upvoters cheering in agreement. “Glen, welcome to the resistance,” commented another. A third stated how Glen Powell turned out to be “the guy” they thought Chris Pratt was, while Pratt turned out to be the guy they thought Powell was.
For those unaware, it’s well-known that the Guardians of the Galaxy actor is reportedly a Trump supporter, sparking controversy within his fan base. Not to mention, he tweeted about praying for Kirk after the murder happened, publicly implying that he was a fan. Whatever the case, it seems that Powell has now earned the respect of thousands. Many remarked on how they suspected the Everybody Wants Some!! star was MAGA, but now they believe his comment has changed their perspective on him.
As for who Glen Powell refused a photo with at the Hollywood party, many users on Reddit are guessing it’s Armie Hammer, Jonathan Majors, James Franco, or even Kevin Spacey. However, Spacey has been ruled out by some, considering that Powell did say the individual was “recently canceled.” He clarified that he’s a fan of their work, but not their choices. Naturally, a photo of the two together might cause fans to suspect Powell somehow supports that person’s actions, which obviously is not the case. And it would appear he doesn’t support Kirk’s actions either, based on what fans on Reddit speculate.
