Of the many animals in Minecraft, the mule is one of the best rideable companions for hauling goods while traveling. Like a donkey, the mule can carry chests, allowing you to transport a large number of resources and materials from one location to another while mounted. However, a mule’s primary advantage over a donkey is its superior speed and jump from its “virtual horse genetics.” Of course, the differences in agility are not too substantial but can make a big difference if you’re an adventurer who often makes long treks across the overworld biomes to transport goods.Â
How to Breed a Horse and Donkey in Minecraft
Breeding a mule requires two passive mobs: a horse and a donkey in Minecraft. However, before you can start breeding, you must ensure both animals have been tamed. This feat is accomplished through feeding and attempting to ride atop the mobs while their temper is high. Giving them foods they like increases their temper stat.Â

What do Axolotls eat in Minecraft?
According to the Minecraft Wiki, adult horses, donkeys, and mules eat sugar, wheat, and apples. Accordingly, you can feed these your horse-and-donkey couple using whichever resource is most plenteous in your stockpile. Next, use an equipped slot on one of the animals to ride them. Depending on their temper and a bit of RNG, hearts will appear, indicating the animal has been tamed.Â
Next, you can breed the horse with the donkey to make a mule by feeding it a golden apple or golden carrot. Compared to carrots, apples can be hard to come by since they cannot be reliably farmed like other crops. Moreover, a golden apple is crafted using eight gold ingots instead of gold nuggets, making it a much more costly breeding item than the golden carrot. Nevertheless, once you have two golden carrots or apples, give one each to your horse and donkey to spawn a baby mule.Â
Much like in real life, mules in Minecraft are sterile and cannot breed with other mules. If you want to make another, you must repeat the golden carrot method with a horse and donkey. Â
Minecraft is available on PC, PlayStation 4|5, Xbox One, Xbox One X|S, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Android, and iOS.
