The Way of the Three is one of the more unique side quests in Diablo 4. While most quests have a clear beginning, steps, and end, this does not. Contrary to how we believe side quests to be in the game, the main difference with this one is that most of it occurs before it formally starts. This, however, is what makes the mission so unique. Without a specific quest giver or marker, you must complete a puzzle before the quest is even available to you, but with little to no instruction aside from a few riddles. Keep reading to learn how to complete The Way of the Three side quest in Diablo 4.
Unlocking The Way of the Three
To begin with, you should head to the East of the Imperial Library to the location in the image above. Once you’re there, you should notice an empty altar, which will read: “As you get closer to the altar, your teeth begin to ache. There is a distinct humming. It appears some things are missing from the three altars…” Additionally, you will find three plaques on the cube’s South, East, and West sides in the center of the room. The plaques each give a riddle for you to decipher, each leading to a statue that you must light.
- “Blessed Bala, architect of all creation, our cursed feet dirty your earth. We walk in accordance to your teachings, so the right path may be found. We bathe in your lifeblood, deep within the crevices of the earth, and Praise your likeness.”
- “Magnificent Mefis, beacon of love, hear your accursed servant. Cleanse our minds, so we might repel malevolent forces. Where friend turns against friend, we cower and Praise before your majesty.”
- “Divine Dialon, god of determination, pass judgment upon the weak. May our souls be cleansed and resolve strengthened. Our hands are torn as we move soil and stone for you. Your servants Praise at the feet of your effigy to be bathed in eternal flame.”
Once you’ve investigated all three plaques and the altar, it’s time to begin lighting the flames. Head to the location above, to the west of the Denshar Waypoint. Here, you will find your first statue. Stand before it and use your Cheer emote to light the flames.
Now, head to the next one. You will find the location in the image above, to the Northeast of Gea Kul. Once you arrive, activate the Cheer emote in front of the statue and light the flames.
The final statue can be found in the Altar of Ruin, to the North of the Altar of Lilith there. Use your Cheer emote to light the last flame when approaching the statue.
Completing The Way of the Three
Return to the altar to the East of the Imperial Library. When you arrive, you should notice that all three flames on the altar are now lit. Interact with the cube on the floor to open up a Mysterious Gateway portal and begin The Way of the Three side quest in Diablo 4.
Inside the portal, you will notice a High Priest’s corpse lying on the ground. Interact with the body to summon the High Priest Spirit. The spirit will talk for a few moments but will soon disappear.
After you complete your talk with the High Priest Spirit, you’ll notice a Communing Pillar off to your left. First, you’ll have to damage the pillar, slay the demons that spawn from it, and finally destroy the Communing Pillar. Destroying the Communing Pillar will complete the quest, and you will be free to return to the overworld.
