Whether you are looking to brew some Mead or want a sweet snack to eat, Honey is a resource you will eventually need to procure and farm during your Nordic adventures in Valheim. Eating a slab of raw honeycomb will grant you a few points of Max HP and Stamina, including slight Health restoration over time for 15 minutes. However, the primary use that adventurers will seek Honey for is its utility in cooking recipes and brewing Mead. These fermented beverages serve as the “RPG-esque potions” of Valheim.
Farming Honey in Valheim
To farm Honey for home base resource production in Valheim, you will need to craft a Beehive from a Wood × 10 and a Queen Bee. Wood evidently comes from chopping trees, but newcomers might not be aware of how Queen Bees are obtained. These bee colony leaders are loot drops from wild Beehives found in the wild.

Wild Beehives have a chance of spawning in the randomly generated Abandoned Houses of the Meadows and Mountains. Sometimes, you might even find them in the Destroyed Towers of the Black Forest. When passing by a structure with a wild Beehive, you will hear a noticeable buzzing noise, indicating that a hive is present. To destroy it and collect the Queen Bee, you will need to break it using ranged weapons or melee strikes. Be mindful of the angry bees that can drain your HP if you are not cautious. Valheim content creator Kysen has stated that Queen Bees are not a guaranteed drop from wild hives, so you might need to find several before you can start up your Honey farm back at home.
Once you have acquired a Queen Bee, combine it with Wood to create a Beehive and place it within your base to start producing and farming Valheim Honey. For the best results, remember to make sure the hive does not have too much cover and is only placed within the Meadows, Black Forest, and Plains. According to the Valheim Wiki, placing a Beehive in biomes other than these three will result in lower Honey production. Finally, remember that some of the recipes made with Honey, such as Serpent Stew or Honey Glazed Chicken, will require an upgraded Cauldron to be made.
Valheim is available on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
