BG3: How to Find the Nightsong in Act 1
(Updated on October 8, 2024 – updated links and format)
Finding Nightsong is one of the most important long-term quests, and you can get this task in Act 1. The main events before the quest begin in Druid Grove. There you will have the opportunity to talk to Liam, one of the survivors of the goblins’ brutal torture. After talking to him, you will learn that a powerful wizard located in Baldurs Gate is interested in Nightsong and is willing to pay a good price to anyone who brings her back alive. This event will start your quest to find Nightsong.
This quest will not take you all the time, and you will be able to explore the world, partially learning about events related to Nightsong. Thus, the next clue about her will appear when you visit the Goblin Camp. On the way there, you will learn that Nightsong is located in Defiled Ruins. This is the lower part of the Goblin Camp, and to get there you will first need to defeat Priestess Gut. While exploring the camp and finding the Defiled Ruins, you will encounter the priestess’s guard, and there are several options on how to deal with him:
- Convince
- Pacify
- Avoid
- Fight
Once you’re done with it, you can move on. And then you will find a puzzle with the phases of the moon, which is easy to complete because you just need to match the elements in the correct sequence, according to the hints on the walls. After successfully solving the puzzle, a door will open that will lead you to one of the important locations, namely Underdark. It is here that you will be able to learn more information about Nightsong from the people who are in Grymforge. Unfortunately, you’ll find out that you didn’t have time and Nightsong is no more here, so all the subsequent events to find her will take place in Act 2.
BG3: How To Find the Nightsong – Act 2
By accomplishing the main and side quests, you will be able to reach the Shadow-cursed lands. Here you will need to complete a part of the story until you reach the Last Light Inn, from where you can continue your journey to the Thorm Mausoleum until you reach Gauntlet of Shar.
In Gauntlet of Shar, you will face the most difficult and interesting challenges and this is where you can find Nightsong. The path will not be easy because to access the place where it is located, you will need to get 4 Umbral Gems. Each of these gems can be obtained by completing the following tasks:
- Kill Yurgir – a fairly easy boss, considering that you don’t even have to get into a fight to defeat him if you make successful persuade checks.
- Faith-Step trial – A puzzle game in which you need to walk along an invisible path.
- Soft-Step trial – A regular maze puzzle, but you will also have to avoid Shadows.
- Self-Same trial – An unusual task where you will have to fight with clones of your team.
Now that you have all 4 Umbral Gems, you will have to get to the Inner Sanctuary, where you will fight a strong boss, namely Balthazar. After you defeat him, you will be able to see Nightsong and you will have to decide whether to kill her or let her live. The choice you make will have huge consequences in the future story, so think carefully before you do anything, or just save the game. Once you have finished all the above steps, this quest will be completed.
