The hit open-world action RPG Enshrouded does not have an official companion pet or even mount system, at least for now. Even though you can easily find various aggressive and passive wildlife roaming about the realm of Embervale. Still, this does not mean that animals cannot be friendly toward your character. Interestingly, some passive skills in the Beastmaster skill tree seem to hide the key for unlocking the ability to own a pet in the game.
Enshrouded: How Can You Turn Aggressive Animals into Pet Companions?
To get a companion pet in Enshrouded, you will need to unlock the Calm Spirit and Beast Master Passive Perks from the Beastmaster skill tree. The Calm Spirit Perk will make all animals around you docile. Meanwhile, the Beast Master skill turns any nearby wild animals to help you out when you’re being attacked. Below is the official in-game description for both passive skills.
- Calm Spirit: Wild animals within 50 meters will be pacified unless attacked. Does not affect animals corrupted by the Shroud.
- Beast Master: When you are targeted by an attack, wild animals within 50 meters will attack the enemy.
It sounds like the skills are only useful if you don’t want to get jumped by wild animals during the night, you say? Well, what makes this Enshrouded companion pet skill tree particularly interesting is its effect on aggressive animals, including Wolves, Boars, and their variants.
Not only do they refrain from attacking you, but a “Start Guarding” prompt also appears when you approach them. Press the E key and you got yourself a companion pet that will follow you around wherever your Enshrouded journey takes you. Simply go near them and press E again to make them stop following you.
Best of all, if your makeshift pet companion in Enshrouded kills something, you get the full experience point from its prey! This means, although a bit gimmicky, the Beastmaster tree has the potential to let players create some creative Pet Tamer builds.
Still, keep in mind when having these improvised companion pets around while traveling the world of Enshrouded. Because, if you attack other wild aggressive animals, your “pet” will also become aggressive and ready to pounce on you again. Obviously, accidentally attacking your companion while battling other creatures will make them turn on you as well.
Do note that the game is still in its early access phase at the time of writing. However, the community has expressed huge interest in having proper companion pets and mounts system through the Enshrouded official Discord server and feedback page. Considering the developer Keen Games always keeps an eye on player response, these features might find their way into the game in future updates.
Enshrouded is available to play on PC.
