Diving for fish is a new addition in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and it allows you to get some unique critters like the Sea Pig. It sells for 10,000 Bells, making them a decent source of money if you are trying to pay off your home loans. They aren’t hard to find but can be difficult to catch. They are seasonal, and you should pay attention to your current month to see if it is available. Invest some practice time and measure your dives, and you can grab it off the sea floor as easily as you fish for objects.
When Can You Catch A Sea Pig In Animal Crossing: New Horizons?
To catch a Sea Pig in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you must check that it is actually available. Just like other fish and insects, Sea Pigs are not available year-round. They are available in certain months, depending on the hemisphere you set.
- Northern Hemisphere: November, December, January, and February
- Southern Hemisphere: May, June, July, and August
They are also available from 4 PM – 9 AM; they will not appear outside those hours. If the time changes to 4 PM, you may need to enter a building and come out for the Sea Pigs to start spawning. Once you confirm that you are in the correct month and time, it’s time to begin hunting Sea Pigs.

How To Catch A Sea Pig
You must have a Wet Suit to dive in the ocean, which you can obtain from Nook’s Cranny or the Nook Shopping app. Equip it and swim into the ocean, then swim around until you see a small and fast shadow moving around. There should be some bubbles to differentiate it from any nearby fish.
You are unlikely to catch the Sea Pig by manually swimming toward it since it can move faster than your swimming speed. You must get an idea of its movements, then position yourself at a location you predict it will move to. Dive under the watch and swim toward the Sea Pig. You have enough oxygen to adjust your path if the Sea Pig starts moving away. If the Sea Pig is close enough, wait for it to stop and move toward the shadow to catch it. Should you get the location wrong or the Sea Pig moves in a different direction, resurface and keep trying again.
The Sea Pig has moments when it stops moving or doesn’t move quickly, which is your best chance to catch it. Intercepting it is also an option, but that can involve more luck than you are comfortable with. It will take some practice, but eventually you can catch your very own Sea Pig and turn it into Blathers at the Museum. You can also sell it if you need the money for your loans.
There are plenty of activities to do if you are waiting for the Sea Pig to appear, such as decorating homes or going fossil hunting if 4 PM is coming up. If you are on a mystery island, it’s still possible to rent a wet suit and catch a Sea Pig. Now that you know how to find and catch one, it’s just waiting for the right month to appear before you start hunting.
