Placing traps all around your base is easily one of the most satisfying, and in this case, funny experiences in Sons of the Forest. I could go on all day about how hilarious it is to watch an enemy get swatted like a fly with some of the traps available, but today, we’re talking about the Spring Trap. The Spring Trap hurdles any enemies that dare step on it into the air, and in the process defeats them with a hard fall back to the ground. Making and using a Sprint Trap in Sons of the Forest might seem quite simple, but oftentimes it doesn’t work as well as you’d hope it would.
Sons of the Forest: How To Craft and Use Spring Traps
In one of the various patches Endnight Games released since Sons of the Forest came out in early access, Spring Traps were introduced. Spring Traps are pretty easy to craft, especially if you hang out around the beaches where plenty of turtles can be found. To craft each Spring Trap, you’ll need:
- 7x Sticks
- 1x Turtle Shell
- 2x Wire
However, until you learn the best way to place a Spring Trap, it’s best to hold off on the crafting process. The way that the AI works for enemies in Sons of the Forest prevents them from knowingly running into traps. Inconvenient, I know.
The only surefire way to make sure the enemies around your base end up like the guy in the image above, is to make sure that you have the best placement possible. While you are creating the outer wall of your base, you should leave gaps with Spring Traps or Fly Swatter Traps so that the enemies will see them as the only clear way into your base. However, if you don’t cut the top of the logs on your wall into spikes, they will just climb over the wall instead of falling victim to your strategically placed traps.
It’s important to note that your own Spring Trap can also wound you if you are not careful. The trap launches anything that touches it into the air, thus leaving the susceptible to painful fall damage. Be sure to have a safe way around them for yourself that enemies cannot access. You will also need to reset your traps after they are used each time, so having only one row of Spring Traps will be much safer for you than having several that you cannot access without getting hurt.
