Prepare for chills to go down your spine. Neon has released a creep teaser for Cuckoo, the anticipated horror movie that fans of Hunter Schafer have been waiting for (seen below). The Euphoria star will be joined by Dan Stevens, Jessica Henwick, Marton Csókás, Greta Fernández, and Jan Bluthardt.
While we have a lengthy logline for the film, plenty of mystery remains around it. The teaser shows the leading star walking and flicking out a switchblade. Eerie, monstrous sounds are made while a voiceover says, “Giving you the chance to be of great use in our quest for preservation. Adolescent needs to be trained.” We then get a scare from a person with what looks like a mask. Ultimately, we are confused by this unusual, interesting teaser for the puzzling film.
Hunter Schaefer Readies Herself for the Unknown in Cuckoo Teaser
In Cuckoo, Hunter Schafer plays Gretchen, a teenager who must move to live with her father in the German Alps. Once she arrives, she meets her father’s boss, Mr. König. He takes an unusual interest in her mute half-sister, Alma. Alongside that, she is “plagued by strange noises and bloody visions until she discovers a shocking secret that also concerns her own family.”
The film comes from German director Tilman Singer, who got his start with his film 2018 film Luz. He wrote and directed his latest project. To give the film its look, he shot it on 35mm.
We will hopefully receive impressions of the film this spring. Hunter Schafer and the gang will premiere Cuckoo at SXSW in Austin, Texas on March 14. As attendees and critics watch the film, we may get a greater sense of what to expect and people’s initial reactions to the film.
Cuckoo will be released in theaters on May 3.
