A woman in North Carolina had attempted to visit her father’s grave, but found that the cemetery he’s buried in is so overgrown, she was unable to locate his headstone. “Piedmont Cemetery is worse than it was 2 weeks ago,” she shares on TikTok, and shows off the terrible state of the graveyard.
Posted by TikTok user Intentionallynicole87, Nicole voices her concern and pain as she pans the camera around Piedmont Cemetery. In her video, you can see grass and weeds have grown to knee height. It’s so bad, none of the headstones can be seen. If you didn’t know any better, passing by you would’ve thought it was just a field like any other.
Nicole shares that her father’s buried there, and has been for several years. Even worse, she’s been going through a lot in her life. “The world is feeling real heavy and I just need my Jerry Eaddy,” she wrote in the caption of her video. Nicole’s husband is seen attempting to locate the grave and isn’t having much luck.
Since then, Nicole posted an update showing that many loved ones came out after they saw her video and the outrage it caused across social media. They’re standing together to try to bring this graveyard back to order.
Nicole is One of Many Locals Unable to Visit Family Graves
Nicole’s TikTok video touched the hearts of many in the comment section of her TikTok video. “Can I come cut around his grave for you or something?!” a viewer asked. Many other commenters offered the same services.
Another tried to offer a solution, saying, “Mamá cry all you need to and then call the city and let them know what’s going on.” However, one viewer pointed out that Piedmont Cemetery isn’t “city property” but “privately owned” by National Vault Services INC.
One viewer shared the trouble they had as well, claiming, “They lost my sister and grandmother. Some new people bought the cemetery and they lost the records for the plots before 1970.”
The cemetery has caught so much heat from locals trying to visit that a reporter for WXII12, Kelly Kendall, even interviewed visitors and what they’re trying to do just to pay their respects to family. Now Nicole’s voice is added to the choir of an ongoing problem.
