A former Navy officer going by BiNorrinRadd on Reddit has been drawing attention over his concerns for the state of Indiana. “I feel bad for Indiana,” he titled his post on r/Indiana, saying how the locals are “very susceptible to ‘electability’ narratives that come from Democrat leadership,” which he claims is a “tool for disciplining progressives.” Hundreds chime in on his post, many sharing a similar sentiment, while more than a handful criticize his views.
BiNorrinRadd claims he moved to NYC around five years ago but still keeps tabs on politics in Indiana. “I feel like people in Indiana have been captive to Republican leadership for so long that they settle for literally any Democrat without really looking into what they actually stand for,” he wrote in his post. He points out that young, hopeful progressives like Jackson Franklin are being outvoted by J. D. Ford, who’s more “corporate-friendly” and has less ideal policies than Victoria Spartz.
One commenter argued that Indiana’s alleged corruption only gets worse because the Republicans being voted in are increasingly worse than before. “Indiana’s best and brightest leave. The mediocre and worst remain in place,” adds another user. A third claiming to be in a minority believes Indiana is getting what it deserves: “Indiana has done this to themselves. I’ve never met a meaner group of people in general.”
Commenters Claim They’ve Either Left Indiana Or Really Want to Leave
Dozens more chimed in, saying how they’ve either already left the state long ago or would prefer to live somewhere else. That said, BiNorrinRadd points to a bigger problem with political sides in general in the US, regardless of whether someone is Republican or Democratic. “The fact that I was seeing ‘vote blue no matter who’ all over Facebook groups in relation to the primary shows the cluelessness of your median Dem voter in Indiana,” he wrote.
Likewise, some people feel that Republicans do the same: voting red regardless of the consequences. For example, a Pennsylvania trailer park resident’s poster went viral, highlighting the central issue of blindly sticking to one’s party without being properly aware of details and policies.
Needless to say, educated voters are the best voters, and as BiNorrinRadd pointed out in his post, people should vote for sound politicians, not just popular candidates who are on their side.
