There’s been no end to the debate over what the administration is doing to the reflective pool in Washington, D.C., but a Reddit post of a duckling at the Lincoln Memorial has broken viewers’ hearts. Dear-Savings3303, the one who shared photos of their Lincoln Memorial visit on r/pics, claimed they saw the ducking swimming in “algae soup.”
“Appreciate it for what it is – $14m algae soup,” wrote a commenter. “Trump blamed Obama for this. I wish I was kidding, but this is fact,” said a second. “Don’t worry bro, all those hundreds of gallons of hydrogen peroxide they are dumping in it today will clear things right up and do wonders for the wildlife!” sarcastically exclaimed a third.
That said, a separate Reddit post on r/mildlyinfuriating had gone viral, displaying a worker allegedly pouring hydrogen peroxide into the reflecting pool, sparking concern among countless online users. The video shows workers pouring jugs of water into the water, which thousands agree is ineffective and poorly thought out.
Going back to the comment about “algae soup,” many believe it’s an ironic metaphor for how things have been going in D.C., as of late. “It’s doing a good job of reflecting the Swamp that is Washington D.C.,” remarked a Redditor.
Reddit Claims the Chemicals Will Be Dangerous for Ducks Swimming in Washington DC’s Reflective Pool
As for the duckling, many are strongly concerned that the chemicals being poured into the water will be a problem. “The algae won’t bother the ducks, but the peroxide will mess up the ducklings,” explained a user. “Don’t worry, they filled it with harsh chemicals to kill the algae, the ducklings will taste the freedom,” joked another.
While many claim the main issue is President Trump spending $14M on the pool situation in Washington, D.C., others chimed in, pointing out that Obama allegedly spent $34M on a failed attempt to stop the Lincoln Memorial’s pool from leaking. Any exorbitant amount of tax dollars spent on the reflective pool will always be controversial, but just about everyone can agree that chemicals in the algae-contaminated water are anything but good for the ducks living there.
