After a 12-minute-long gameplay trailer at the PlayStation 2023 Showcase, many are now wondering whether the new Spider-Man game, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, will come to Sony’s previous generation PS4 hardware. Let’s dive into everything we know about Spider-Man 2 on PS4 so far.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on PS4 Explained

If you’re seeking a short answer in this regard, then it’s a no. It’s definitely sad news for many PS4 and PS4 Pro owners and fans. The developers at Insomniac announced this news last year with the introduction of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. So, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 isn’t coming to the PS4 and PS4 Pro consoles, but is this going to be the case after the release on PS5?

Many developers like Rocksteady, Criterion Games, Arkane, and more are now focusing on the 9th gen releases only. The gaming industry is taking a new direction in 2023, and fans are feeling the way the developers are saying goodbye to PS4 and Xbox One one after another. We had Redfall, Need For Speed: Unbound, and even Star Wars Jedi: Survivor as examples in this regard.

However, since God of War: Ragnarok and Horizon: Forbidden West both released on PS4, fans may expect Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 to release for their 8th gen PlayStation consoles as well. This is while the developers have already said goodbye to the PlayStation 4. But why?! If God of War: Ragnarok could be designed to be released on 8th gen PS4, why not do the same for the new Spider-Man game?

Why Isn’t Spider-Man 2 on PS4?

Insomniac has announced that the reason for not releasing Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is to push the limits of the PS5. Taking advantage of the new hardware seems like the next PlayStation-exclusive games won’t be released on PS4 either. This is because the developers’ first draft for designing each game is now based on the new console. And if they want to release the same game for the 8th gen consoles, it would require a lot of effort to downgrade the graphics and design. This is while a PC release of the Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 in the future is a good guess.
