Modern Warfare mini-map will possibly undergo some changes once the beta ends. The Call of Duty community has heavily criticized the game’s mini-map. Or to say it better, the absence of the mini-map, has been heavily scrutinized.
About the mini-map debate, Infinity Ward Senior Communications Manager, Ashton Williams, responded on Twitter by saying that:
“We’re still looking at different ways to work with the minimap, team outlines, and the compass. Let’s see how tomorrow goes and rest of the beta for weekend two.”

Therefore, it seems that the mini-map will undergo additional changes in some way, shape, or form. Especially considering that the feedback for the game will increase dramatically next weekend. That’s because from September 19th to September 23rd, the Modern Warfare beta becomes available on Xbox and PC as well. During this period of time, it will also be possible to play in cross-play across all platforms. In addition, players will have the chance to try first hand the new 32 vs. 32 Ground War mode.
During the early access days of Modern Warfare beta, Infinity Ward decided to remove the mini-map altogether. By making it available exclusively through killstreak. This decision led many players to play more conservatively, and overall, it created a slower experience. An experience very different from the more “run and gun” play style that usually characterizes the Call of Duty series.
The fanbase and the pro scene competitors didn’t like it and expressed their disagreement. As a consequence, on the first day of the PlayStation 4 exclusive Modern Warfare open beta, Infinity Ward introduced some changes.
Right now, Modern Warfare displays a permanent minimap on the top left corner of the screen. Though, contrary to what happens in the previous Call of Duty games, the enemies don’t become visible when they shoot. Players can only see teammates and enemies are visible only through killstreaks.
