A man in New York City, New York, came across an unusual building that had a noticeable crack in one of its corners. Upon closer inspection, the man was surprised by the material the building was built with. While it wasn’t exactly that, it looked as if the building was made of Styrofoam.
Wazowski NYC shared the odd and eye-catching moment on TikTok. He is a streamer who mostly posts Grand Theft Auto roleplaying clips on his account. The video attached above, while off-topic, became one of his biggest ones to date. In a day, it garnered 469,200 views,
The New York man was walking through the streets of The Bronx when he came across one of the neighborhood’s new buildings. He pointed out that it was one of those expensive buildings with a years-long waiting list for anyone who wanted to rent. Wazowski stopped, though, because he saw a crack on one of its corners. The man was clearly shocked by what he saw.
Styrofoam?
“Bro, you’re telling me this building is made out of Styrofoam?” he asked. Wazowski stuck his finger into the crack and began tearing the building down, one microscopic piece at a time. He said, “I’m playing Minecraft,” and added that he was “breaking the building down.”
It is safe to say the man wasn’t impressed. And while his Styrofoam claim was borderline justified by how the building looked, the truth lay in the comments. Some viewers identified the material as EIFS, or Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems.
As per AMWINS, EIFS is a type of exterior cladding that provides insulation and aesthetics. The site also reports a series of risks, with moisture buildup being one of the most common issues that lead to material deterioration and the presence of mold and mildew.
Reactions
Although the building wasn’t made of Styrofoam after all, many viewers reacted in shock anyway. One said, “Even the 3 little pigs had better materials.” Another one commented, “They’re charging premium prices for [expletive] materials, and people still pay up.”
The building bashing was relentless. One user wrote, “I’m a restoration architect in NYC. These new materials are [expletive] compared to old-school brick and mortar.” Another one added, “This doesn’t even seem legal at all.”
Those seeking an apartment in New York City would most likely benefit from slightly scratching the building’s exterior.
