No Friends, No Problem! Mercenaries Show Us What They Are Working With in Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred ONL Trailer

Who needs friends anyway?

My socially awkward heart soars with joy after learning Mercenaries are coming to Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred. Yes, I know these games are better with friends. And yes, I’m aware a bit of a helping hand is necessary in certain instances. But after hearing a random call me fat for the third time after perishing in a boss fight, that’s when I call it quits. In all seriousness, though, it is great to have new systems that are tailored toward solo players.

While there aren’t a lot of in-depth details for this feature yet, we won’t have to wait long to hire these eclectic fighters. Raheir the Shieldbearer, Aldkin the Cursed Child, Varyana the Berserker Crone, and Subo the Bounty Hunter, seem to be the mercenaries we’ll be able to recruit once Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred goes live. The only information about recruiting these fighters comes from the latest blog post by Blizzard. It mentions we can recruit mercenaries during the DLC’s main story. However, it doesn’t mention how far we have to delve into it before unlocking this feature. But with the expansion’s release date near, we won’t have to wait long to find out.

While Diablo 4 had a rocky launch, Vessel of Hatred brought the hype back to all players. Heck, even I, who only played a bit of the base game, am extremely excited for what’s coming. I was already looking forward to trying the new class, but I was a bit afraid of exploring the new areas by myself. Thankfully, that won’t be the case anymore.

Furthermore, it looks like the system goes deeper than just hiring these characters. There’s a rapport feature, bartering options, specific currency for them, and much more. While I already love these four hirelings, I hope Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred adds many more mercenaries and that this becomes an evergreen feature moving forward. Really, it’s the perfect addition for solo players. Also, I’d love to see the system continue as the fourth installment launches more content.
