On May 4th, the latest, and likely final trailer for the Disney+ Obi-Wan Kenobi series was released. The trailer kept most of the plot points under wraps. Besides this, fans can deduce several aspects of where the show is going. Fans only have to wait a few weeks to see what happens, but they are still analyzing the trailer for any meaning, and we are no exception. This is one of the most highly anticipated Star Wars projects ever, and fans already want to know all they can. Ewen McGregor has built the hype even more by stating this is the best time he has had playing the character. To celebrate Star Wars Day and the return of our favorite Jedi master, here are some story reveals and secrets we have come up with.
6. Vader Knows Kenobi Is Alive
After the events of Order 66, all remaining Jedi went into hiding. Up until now, fans had assumed Vader and Kenobi had only one rematch, 19 years after their last meeting. Now, it is clear the two crossed paths much sooner. Obi-Wan had been hiding for 10 years in the sands of Tatooine. Thanks to this latest trailer, it is clear that Vader and the Empire are aware Obi-Wan Kenobi is among the Jedi who have survived. It isn’t clear if they have proof or if it is just a hunch on Vader’s part, but it is clear he knows of Kenobi and will not rest until his former master is but a pile of robes. Darth Vader’s anger and hatred are legendary, and he will spare none of it in hunting down his former master.
5. Owen Lars Resents Obi-Wan
In order to protect them from Anakin and the Empire, Luke and Leia were separated and taken in by foster parents. Luke went to live with Owen Lars and his wife. Owen is Anakin’s stepbrother and lived on Anakin’s former home planet, Tatooine. in A New Hope, Owen refuses to let Luke leave the farm out of fear of him turning into his father. It is clear in that movie Lars wishes Luke to forget he ever heard the name Obi-Wan, and this trailer shows how deep his resentment goes. The two share only one scene in the Kenobi trailer, but it is clear Owen blames Obi-Wan for what happened to Anakin. Owen wants nothing more than to protect Luke, and it is clear he feels the best way to do this is by ensuring Obi-Wan never trains him in the ways of the force.
4. Kenobi Never Abandoned Luke
It has always been known just how guilty Obi-Wan Kenobi felt about Anakin’s fall to the darkside. He went into hiding not out just for survival but to ensure he doesn’t make the same mistakes again. This trailer shows that even though he feels Darth Vader was his creation in some way, he still plans on teaching Luke. Many fans speculated that it would have taken time for Kenobi to feel confident enough to want to train another young Jedi. According to this trailer, the opposite is true. Kenobi clearly feels the best way to right his wrongs is by ensuring the son of Anakin Skywalker grows up to become a wise and powerful Jedi. Obi-Wan even has an argument with Owen Lars in the trailer, proving that he feels the best thing for Luke to do is to become a Jedi like his father before him.
3. The Empire Knows Where Kenobi Is
When Obi-Wan went into hiding, he clearly wanted to protect himself from the Empire and his former apprentice. The Obi-Wan Kenobi trailer shows that not only does the Empire know he is alive, they likely know where he is. At some point, Kenobi’s secret became known, and Vader’s Inquisitors knew to look for him on Tatooine. The trailer shows the Jedi hunters scouring the planet, asking for his whereabouts. Obi-wan knows once the Empire finds him, then they will likely discover Luke as well. This adds some major suspense to the show. Obi-Wan will likely have to take drastic measures to protect himself, as well as Luke. Obi-Wan sees Luke as a second chance. Not just for his guilt but for the Jedi to rise from the ashes once again.
2. Obi-Wan Fears Vader
If there is anyone who knows Anakin Skywalker the best, it is Obi-Wan. He trained Anakin from a young boy until adulthood. He fought alongside him during the Clone Wars, so he knows what he is capable of. When Kenobi faced off against Anakin on Mustafar, he felt terrible power and severe hatred. Obi-Wan beat Anakin only because of a mistake made by Anakin. Kenobi knows that Vader is unlikely to make a similar mistake. Plus, Obi-Wan has been out of practice for 10 years. Darth Vader is one of the most powerful people in the galaxy, and Kenobi knows this. The trailer sees Obi-Wan’s reaction to Vader’s breathing, and it is a look of pure fear. It is unlikely Obi-Wan fears Vader because of what Vader will do to him directly. He is likely afraid of what will happen if Vader discovers Luke. One evil Skywalker is bad, but two would be devastating.
1. Obi-Wan Doesn’t Need A Lightsaber
Every fan knew that Obi-Wan Kenobi was hiding his powers, but this trailer hints at just how far he goes. Obi-Wan famously despises blasters, referring to them as uncivilized. However, this trailer shows that he is willing to use one instead of relying on his trusty Lightsaber. If Kenobi ignited his saber at all, Inquisitors will hone in on him immediately. Obi-Wan is still more than willing to defend himself, even if it means using the weapon he despises so much. He is also shown defeating enemies with his bare hands, showing he isn’t fully reliant on the force. Obi-Wan is a master combatant with a lightsaber, but he is equally as skilled in other ways. When it comes to Vader, however, Kenobi will likely resort to his civilized and elegant Lightsaber.
