A store owner in Ohio is facing backlash online after a video showed him using a racial slur during a dispute with an Uber employee.
The employee appeared to be attempting to return a floral order to the store. According to her, Uber policies require a signature upon delivery, and she was unable to obtain one, which is why she brought the order back. The store owner, however, argued that she should have left the order at the delivery location instead of returning it to the store.
In the video, the store owner is heard telling the woman, “You screwed it up. It clearly said to leave it,” referring to the order instructions. She attempts to explain that Uber requires a signature in such cases, but he continues to interrupt her. He repeatedly raises his voice and demands that she leave the store, saying “Get out” multiple times.
The woman continued trying to explain her side of the situation, but the store owner remained firm in his stance. “It clearly said to leave it. Did you not read that part?” he argued. As the exchange escalated, he told her, “I’m done with you,” and again demanded that she leave, warning that he would call the police if she did not. He then added, “You’re trespassing.”
As the woman continued trying to explain her side, the store owner appeared to lose his patience and the situation escalated further. He began using profanity and raising his voice, telling her, “You’re on my last goddamn nerve. Get the [expletive] out.” She responded by calling his behavior rude, to which he replied, “Go to hell.”
The owner continued yelling at the woman to leave the store, and the confrontation escalated further. During the exchange, he used profanity and directed offensive language at her, saying, “You are a [expletive] disgrace. You can kiss my White [expletive].” The woman responded with insults of her own, and the argument intensified. At one point, he escalated the situation further by using a racial slur, calling her the n-word, which ultimately sparked widespread backlash online.
Following the use of the slur, the woman began to leave the store and said, “Don’t worry. I’ll be back,” while threatening to involve the police. Before exiting completely, she reopened the door and repeatedly said, “Your mother.” In response, the owner continued using profanity, saying, “You [expletive] [expletive]. That’s why you’re delivering for Uber, [expletive].” The video ends with him stating that he would call the police.
In the caption of the video, the woman’s child made additional claims about the incident, alleging that the store owner told police she had a gun. However, there is no footage included that shows this allegation taking place, and it remains unverified.
The video quickly spread online due to the heated confrontation and the use of a racial slur by the store owner. He faced immediate backlash, and users began sharing a screenshot of what was claimed to be a statement from his Facebook account. In the post, he appeared to apologize to the Uber driver for what happened:
“I need to address the issue going around. Yes, there was a dispute at my shop today. I am truly sorry to anyone I had offended or hurt by the bad choice of words used. Kimberly, the Uber driver, I’m deeply sorry you were pulled into such misconduct on my behalf. I truly regret speaking to you in such a horrible manner. I am not a racist person and that word is not a word I use. I’m not making excuses, there is video of my bad choice in words, but this should not define me. I’m human, and I make mistakes. Today is a prime example. Again, to any of my friends, family or customers I have offended, I’m deeply sorry for my bad choice of words and hope to move past this horrible situation.”
Outrage Following Video of Ohio Store Owner
The video sparked reactions online. Many viewers expressed outrage at the store owner in Ohio over the racial slur used during the confrontation with an Uber driver. Many were shocked at the escalation, with one person writing, “He said what?????” Another commenter suggested this may not have been an isolated incident, saying, “Shameful. Clearly not his first time.” Others focused on the woman’s response during the situation, with one user adding, “I really admire people who can manage to not raise their voice and remain calm in situations like this.”
Others encouraged the woman to address the situation through legal channels, with one commenter writing, “Hey, contact a lawyer IMMEDIATELY, ask if this is ok to post (you have a strong case and idk if a post will hurt that), this happened while working (as 1099 employee), still ask lawyer if you need to escalate this to uber as well. Good luck, I’m so sorry this happened.” At the same time, some people defended the store owner, with one saying, “Idk i been there multiple times he’s the sweetest person Ever this is so out of character for him.”
