A woman in Owasso, Oklahoma, joined the viral TikTok Netflix documentary trend by exposing her “soon-to-be ex-husband” by accusing her soon-to-be ex-husband of sexually abusing a minor. Days after posting the clip, both of them were found dead, with police saying that it was the estranged husband who pulled the trigger.

The woman in question is Sara Duffey, who went by Sara Gilson and was a hairstylist. The clip attached above was posted on Saturday, July 11. It quickly went viral, garnering 5.6 million views, 358,200 likes, and more than 13,100 comments. Most likely, a significant amount of these stats came following the tragedy.

The Oklahoma woman is shown sitting on a chair, joining the viral Netflix documentary trend. In this case, she captioned her clip, “Preparing for when Netflix drops a documentary about my soon-to-be ex-husband who I just found out is a pedophile.”

No further context was given, and the 15-second clip ended without her uttering a single word. Five days after posting the trend, she shared a clip of her with a friend of hers. Lastly, on July 21, she uploaded her final photo. She is seen sitting on a boat, looking at the ocean. The picture is captioned, “May whatever the [expletive] that was never find me again.” She also wrote in the description, “Please God.”

Found Dead

As reported by KTUL, officers with the Owasso Police Department responded to a domestic call on Thursday, July 23. The outlet reported that a juvenile living in a home at the corner of East 123rd Place North and North 130th East Avenue called 911 at around 11:15 p.m. News On 6, in contrast, reported that a neighbor called 911. The juvenile had come to her door for help.

Either way, it appears that the juvenile was the son of the victim, who was then identified as Sara.

Police officers, upon arrival, found Sara and Jeremiah “Shawn” Duffey, Sara’s estranged husband, dead with gunshot wounds. Investigators believe that Shawn shot Sara dead before turning the gun on himself in an apparent murder-suicide. The deaths occurred 12 days after she posted the viral TikTok in which she accused her estranged husband of being a pedophile. Police have not indicated that the video or its allegations were connected to the shooting.

Heinous Allegations

Records reviewed by The Oklahoman reveal that Sara filed two protective orders against Shawn back in 2021, which were dismissed after she failed to appear at a hearing. Recently, on June 10, 2026, a protective order against him was granted. He was ordered to stay 100 yards away from her and to leave their home.

Shawn Duffey, a youth basketball team coach, on the very same day that Sara filed her protective order, was named in a separate protective order. A mother accused him of kissing and fondling her 15-year-old daughter, who happened to be one of the girls Shawn coached. The woman also alleged that he had been sending inappropriate messages to her young daughter, including a hotel room invitation and offering money to keep it a secret.

Reactions

The shocking and disturbing nature of her passing left many online distraught and in tears. One viewer commented, “This is why some of us never leave.” Another one said, “Ladies never underestimate how dangerous these men are. Sara, I’m sorry.”

Some of Sara’s friends also remembered the beloved Oklahoma mother fondly. Bekki Rainer Tilley wrote online, “We lost a beautiful soul, but I know she finally has the peace and love she always wanted and needed.”

Lyle Landers, the father of Sara’s two children, also shared an emotional message online. He wrote, “I will do my best to always remind my kids who their mom is, was, and always will be. Carrots and Boogie Man will be ok, Sara, I promise you. I will always take care of them.”
