After 22 years, the One Piece train shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. With the manga, films, anime, and more merchandise than is physically possible to own, the series is huge. It’s the best selling manga series in history for a reason. Let’s not forget the video games, there are more games than I’m actually willing to count and soon there will be one more.
During Bandai Namco’s play anime panel at Anime Expo 2019, they announced a new game in the Pirate Warriors series, more specifically One Piece Pirate Warriors 4. Not much information was given on the new title besides the format that will see it and a tentative release date of 2020. We did, however, get to see a trailer:
One Piece Pirate Warriors 4 will release on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC and the Nintendo Switch. The trailer itself doesn’t show too much and, unfortunately, doesn’t show any gameplay. According to Bandai Namco, Pirate Warriors 4 will span multiple arcs from the series, including the more recent Whole Cake Island arc. The prospect of fighting Big Mom should be an exciting one for the fans, I for one am looking forward to it, although not as much as I am about fighting Katakuri. Assuming we get to do so.
The One Piece Pirate Warrior games are essentially Dynasty Warriors with a One Piece skin. High numbers of on-screen enemies swarm the players who then proceed to beat the living daylights out of them. Plenty of mayhem, plenty of button mashing and plenty of fun.
I still play One Piece Pirate Warriors 3 from time to time and still enjoy it. I’m looking forward to the new game and playing through some of the newer story arcs. What about you guys, are you excited for some more One Piece? Let us know in the comments your thoughts and we’ll bring you more news as and when we get it.
