Outrage erupted online after a kindergarten teacher in Tennessee shared a video showing himself wearing a Pride T-shirt inside his classroom.

The teacher shared a video showing the outfits he wore during the first week of school. While the first outfit appeared unremarkable, the second one drew attention online. In that clip, he was wearing a T-shirt featuring a rainbow flag, which is commonly associated with the Pride flag.

Meet this Kindergarden teacher named Mr. Greg from Nashville, Tennessee.

He posted this video showing his outfits for the first week of school.

The teacher was also wearing what appeared to be a glittery robe over the Pride T-shirt. The other outfits shown in the video appeared more conventional, including his final look, which featured a T-shirt with “kindergarten” written on the front and “Mr. Greg” on the back. Adding to the backlash was the fact that the teacher’s TikTok profile listed his pronouns as “he/him/his.”

Whether a kindergarten teacher can wear a Pride-themed shirt at school generally depends on the policies of the school and district, as well as local laws and dress codes. In the case of the Tennessee teacher, his Pride shirt became controversial because some viewers felt that LGBTQ+ messaging was inappropriate for kindergarten students, while others viewed the shirt as a personal expression of inclusion and support. The disagreement reflects a broader divide over how schools should balance teachers’ personal expression with school policies and parents’ expectations for what is appropriate in classrooms for young children.

The teacher’s use of “he/him/his” pronouns on his TikTok profile also became part of the criticism surrounding the video. Some people believe teachers, particularly those working with younger children, should avoid emphasizing pronouns because they consider gender identity a personal or family matter rather than something schools should address. Others view the use of pronouns as a basic part of respectful communication and argue that identifying them can help create an inclusive environment. In this case, the teacher’s pronouns became another point of disagreement for viewers already criticizing his Pride-themed clothing.

Viewers Outraged Over Tennessee Kindergarten Teacher’s Pride T-Shirt

The video sparked reactions online. Many viewers expressed outrage after seeing the Tennessee teacher wear a Pride T-shirt in his classroom, with some arguing that the clothing was inappropriate for a school setting. “Indoctrination by clothing. [Slur],” one person wrote. Another said, “Get these freaks out of the schools.” Someone else added, “Yes. And better yet, homeschool your kids.”

More viewers criticized the teacher, with one person arguing that teachers should keep their personal lives separate from the classroom. “When will teachers learn that education is about the children learning and not the teachers lifestyle. Put some big boy pants on and stand in the corner Mr. Greg,” one person wrote. Others defended him, arguing that the shirt was simply a colorful piece of clothing and did not necessarily promote any particular agenda. “So that’s actually just a shirt with a rainbow on it,” another person said.

The controversy also brought attention to the question of how schools should handle Pride-related clothing worn by teachers. The disagreement online ultimately reflects the different expectations parents, teachers, and schools may have when it comes to dress codes and what is considered appropriate in a classroom.
