While the cost of living continues to rise, the situations many people face aren’t improving as expenses increase. And in one Pennsylvania renter’s case, things are actually worse than they should be. The two dumpsters outside their apartment have become overflowing mounds of trash, and the piles have grown so large that residents have begun leaving their trash around the dumpsters.
“I pay $1450 a month our trash looks like this DAILY!” exclaimed Reddit user Level2Ion. In the photos they shared in their post on r/Renters, the trash mounds in the dumpster on the left have grown so much that it’s nearly sticking outside of the fenced garbage area. People have to wade through the trash just to reach the dumpster, though it’s not like it could fit any more garbage.
Level2Ion added in the comments that their complex has around 45 apartments, with about 80% occupied. In other words, dozens of people in the complex are paying rent, but management seemingly hasn’t done anything to properly address the massive amount of garbage everyone produces. According to OP, the two dumpsters are overflowing “anywhere from 2 weeks to a month,” which isn’t ideal in the slightest.
The Comments Insist OP Calls Code Enforcement
Allegedly, the apartment complex’s tenant portal is “basically useless,” leaving Level2Ion at a loss as to how they can get help. Fortunately for them, their post’s top commenter had the right idea: “Call code enforcement. I would assume they have some type of ‘garbage and debris’ citation they can issue to the property owner,” the user suggested.
Plenty of others agreed that the overflowing dumpsters were unacceptable and should be reported as a health hazard. On the other hand, several Redditors argued that $1,450, while still a lot of money, isn’t really all that pricey these days. “Looks like you live in the ghetto,” remarked a commenter. “For $1450 a month where I live you’d be living in that dumpster,” added another.
As many commenters put it, growing piles of trash at apartment complexes aren’t new, but they’re still very problematic. For Level2Ion, they’re hoping their management will either add a new dumpster to the lot or pay for a more frequent pickup schedule. Either way, something needs to be done before whatever could be living in those mounds of trash makes its way into people’s homes.
