Most Pokemon players would like to get their hands on Growlithe, the classic Fire dog Pokemon. It’s not just because it’s a “good boy”, but Growlithe is considered to be one of the quite rare defensive Fire Pokemon thanks to its Intimidate Ability and its skill to bypass the enemy’s defense by using Will-O-Wisp. Its evolution, Arcanine, also has a good Speed stat and access to strong attacks. With that in mind, you shouldn’t neglect Growlithe for your Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl party if you managed to find one.
Unfortunately, Growlithe is subject to the “version exclusive Pokemon” strategy Nintendo and GameFreak have employed since the very first game in the series. Growlithe can only be caught if you play the Brilliant Diamond version, and that means you have to trade for it if you play Shining Pearl. YouTuber Pokemon Archive has made a quick video guide on how to catch a Growlithe in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond. Watch the video below.
Where to Find Growlithe
To find Growlithe in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond, you have to first unlock the Grand Underground feature. In the Grand Underground, you can find exclusive Pokemon roaming about in a variety of Pokemon Hideaway areas. Growlithe only spawns in the Spacious Cave, Volcanic Cave, Sandsear Cave, and Typhlo Cavern areas after you have unlocked the National Pokedex. This means you need to beat the Elite Four and Champion as well as finish up the Sinnoh Pokedex first before you can catch a Growlithe.
Putting on specific Statues in your Secret Base can also boost a specific Pokemon type to show up in the Pokemon Hideaway. Try putting a Charmander Statue to boost the chance of encountering more Fire-types Pokemon.
